The dealership will take the motor apart to a level to determine if it will be less expensive to rebuild it or replace it.

Hopefully the engine wasn't damaged.

I would be very leery of losing an oil pump and them just replacing it. Doesn't take much to score a bearing.

I can tell you I wouldn't want the motor any more or show me that the crank is ok... I have built engines for 30 years and would demand a new one. Now it would be nice to pay the difference to get a 6.2!!

I would be asking for a complete engine tear down with new bearing. If you killed it quickly after the engine warning came on you will be fine, modern oils do very well in shear tests. I would want new main and camshaft bearings at a minimum.

No way you can do or get a 6.2l motor instead, while the motor will bolt right in the ECM would have to be recalibrated with the 6.2l program and GM is not going to make that change to your VIN in their system.

I'm fully aware that you can't get the 6.2 in place of the 5.3. I said it would be nice

The engine has a 100,000 mile warranty. It'll probably be fine, and if it's not you have plenty of time to get rid of it.

I highly doubt you can make the dealer do anything not specified by GM.
