My 2014 Sierra 5.3L oil pump failed at 90.000 KM/ 56000 Miles.

This should be a recall or class action lawsuit.

Dealer charged $2875.39 CAD for a 14 hours job.I am pissed for sure.

Complained to GM Canada about it on their facebook page and they told me they were happy to know that my truck is already repaired...

Now I affectionately call it my garbage truck.

That's a real ******, were there any potential warnings like oil pressure changes or whining etc?

Yes for sure, that whining sound and P06DD and AFM disabled and remote start not working because of the P06DD...I knew it was coming but its unacceptable for a truck with low mileage like that.My silverado 2004 had 369.000 KM and original oil pump.2014-2018 oil pump are junk for sure.

I have a 2014 gmc that I just bought. the truck has 95,000 miles on it.  check engine light came on and it throwing a code that the veins in the oil pump is coming apart. still hold 45 to 50 pounds of oil pressure and I have already changed out the oil pressure switch to eliminate that thought. any body else having this issue. also it was 1.5 quarts low of oil..

My oil pump went on my 5.3L 2014 sierra at ~145k miles.  It was throwing P06DD.  Had to get new ECM also, ran me about $3500.  A few months later the 6 speed trans went, another $3,300.. 2019 was not a great year for the truck.

2015 Sierra 1500 Denali with 80,000 miles and got a low oil pressure light on.  Turned the truck off immediately and it towed to GMC where they told me my oil pump blew up, which got into the engine, and now the truck needs a new motor.  Regular maintenance has always been completed, so pretty crappy for a $100 oil pump to blow up and wreck the whole vehicle.

Long shot, but when was the truck put into service (sold new date), maybe you are still in the powertrain warranty.

Out of warranty unfortunately

Because of the mileage, and the fact the oil pump's have had known issues, I would open a claim with GM to see if you can pick up any assistance on the repair cost.

Hello fellow truck lovers, 2014 silverado 5.3, 0 oil pressure stop engine immediately, sound familiar? Truck has 124,000 miles, never had any oil pressure codes or low oil pressure, all oil changes and services done at dealer since purchased new,  including new tires and even windshield wipers, last oil change was  800 miles ago. Changed pressure sensor and pulled screen under it screen was clean as a whistle still no oil pressure pulled filter started momentarily,  nothing there.  Removed small oil pan cover from bottom of pan, sump screen is clean but fine, what looks to be aluminum more like dust than shavings in pan.  Being that  the oil pumps first to the filter then to the motor and the filter should catch anything that might damage the engine top side and there was nothing in the  screen below the pressure sensor would I be safe to think there was no damage to engine. I probably haven't ran engine 15 seconds with no oil pressure. Is there any chance that GM will assist with any costs being that it is out of warranty.  I can replace the pump myself but if GM will cover anything why wouldn't I let them.  The only problem is that they have to do an evaluation before they will commit to any out of warranty assistance and I need to comit to $2000 before a wrench is turned,  I was told that it depends alot on customer loyalty.  If I do decide to do it myself would it be a good idea to pull a couple of rod caps and see what I see as long as I have them exposed?  What are your thoughts on flushing the engine?  I did notice a slight belt whine the morning I lost oil pressure so I thought about pulling the vac pump and see what it looks like before I go any further.   Any thoughts or recommendations greatly appreciated.

    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
    • Anyone install a a supercharger on your 6.6L L8T? Talk to me...
