I just installed a super 44, but think it's too quiet. I am thinking about deleting the resonator and keeping the flapper open. Will deleting the resonator make a big difference? Will it create a drone? And will the permanent open flap make a difference?

The flap is for v4 mode. Without the resonator it will just have a deeper rumble. If you don't have the flap operational, when it kicks into v4 mode it will sound like crap (based on what other members have said in their experience)

Removing the resonator will make a huge difference in sound. It should make it a lot louder. I recommend relocating your flapper to be before the muffler instead of behind. Having mine behind makes my exhaust sound like its full of holes. Once you do both of those if you dont like the sound still you can clamp open the v4 flapper.

Also I have a feeling with a 44 and no resonator youre going to get drone in v8, and it will be even worse in v4. Any loud exhaust will have some drone, some worse than others.

Yes. I've got 18" Magnaflow with 3rd cat(resonator) and flapper gone... let me know if you do take it off, I might want your flapper.

Not removing the flapper haha, just clamping/welding it open if i plan to go through with it

i have a 4.3l v6 so its still quiet with the 44. i might cut the resonator and clamp open the valve. if i get really bad drone then ill unclamp the valve. what do you think? I dont plan on moving the valve to before the muffler

If you don't plan on moving it to before then leave it held open (don't weld it, just use a clamp or bolt), but yes remove the resonator if you want it louder.

Mine sounded god awful with the valve after the mufler. I drove it home from the shop and instantly clamped it open and its been like that since.

I have a single in/dual out Super 44 on my truck and had them remove everything from the muffler back (stock muffler, resonator and tailpipe) and it sounds really good and is very loud. It does have the V4 drone because I don't have the flapper valve anymore, but it's not that bad. To me it just sounds like an engine brake/jake brake on an 18 wheeler which I actually like and don't mind. I didn't touch anything in front of the muffler so I kept the 3rd cat, but I may remove it later on.

I too have gotten used to the v4 drone, part of the reason I haven't relocated my flapper yet. I put a drop in dry filter and created a home made MIT as well and with that extra air flow my truck has a nice grumble under load.

because i drive a v6, do you think i won't have a drone?

It will probably be worse because you have v6, if you're worried about drone a super 44 was probably not the best choice.

why would it be worse do you know? i was assuming v8 are naturally louder which would therefore have a higher chance of louder drone/??

Drone is worse when using a v8 muffler on a smaller displacement engine. They dont push as much air through and it gets caught up in the muffler causing the low tones.

    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
