Flap is now clamped open and I had the resonator chopped off just now. I'll write up a review soon

Posted (edited)

drove from the muffler shop back to my house ~10 minutes on city roads, no highway. BUT I LOVE THE SOUND NOW! removing the resonator and opening the valve sure did cause a significant increase in deep, grumbly sound. Can't say anything about the v4 noise cause I haven't driven on the highway yet for it to be noticeable. but omg it sounds delicious, like a v8 ~~

might go get a tune doe. after chopping off the muffler, resonator, and opening the valve, the shifting is a bit off? higher revs before shifts

Hell ya man let it rip now!

I have a diablosport trinity and it improved my truck greatly! You may just be noticing it hanging onto gears longer before shifting now because you can actually hear it lol.

Probably not a bad idea to pull your negative cable off your battery for a couple minutes and then drive it hard after to get the computer to relearn your driving. If you drive hard during the learning period it tends to have better throttle response and shifts better.

whats your opinion on the Diablo Sport intune? and does adding this void warranty?

Its the same thing as the trinity, you can log more and do 0-60 etc with the trinity.

You back up your stock tune before installing a custom tune so you can return it to stock if you ever need to take it in for warranty work.

Dealership can still count how many times the computer had been flashed though

I have a 4.3 with a super 44, flapper is off and the resonator is gone. I liked the sound and the drone wasn't bad at all in my opinion. I added a cold air intake from Injen technologies and it really changed the exhaust sound around 2300rpm to 3000 rpm. Exhaust sound is a tricky situation because everyone has different opinions on what sounds good but with that said I really like the way it sounds. Not loud going down the highway or around town unless you get on it

I had my corsa sport put on at a local exhaust shop and they left the resonator/3rd cat, would it be worth taking it back and having them remove it?

Some people are calling it both the 3rd cat and resonator like it's the same. There's a 3rd cat towards the front behind the other 2 cats and then the resonator is basically a 2nd muffler that you see at the rear axle. I left my 3rd cat on but had the stock muffler and everything behind it taken out. If you want it louder then get the resonator taken out. I may take my 3rd cat out one day but it's no rush since my truck is plenty loud and I don't think removing the 3rd cat would do much.

I can't get good sound out of my iPhone mic, and can't do it in the driveway cuz the neighbors already complained about my roommates exhaust (straight piped with no cats lol). Anyone have any suggestions to get good sound quality?

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
