2002 Silverado LS

Factory radio

Roady XT.

I installed the Roady XT, antenna, aux dash power cord, and I do get reception but with a lot of static.

Used the portable power cord that plugs into aux outlet next to cigarette lighter.

What I did after:

I tried another Roady XT receiver - same results.

I tried a new antenna - same results.

I tried a different power cord - same results.

Am I missing something?

I did exactly the same with my 1997 Ford Taurus and all works perfectly. Exact same setup and same location.

So is there something in this GM factory radio or set up that I am missing?

Have you tried setting the Roady for a different transmit frequency? (be sure to tune the GM Radio to match)

I have the Roady XT. Works perfectly in my Ford Taurus.

Had XM brand antenna installed.

Same Roady XT - in Silverado - I get a lot of static.

I do get channels. But in and out and mostly static. No matter what the location.

The Roady XT has built in modulator to choose channel. I tried a bunch of vacant FM channels. All the same static.

Yep, you covered what I asked.

My brother has a Roady XT. Tried it out in my 11' before mounting it in his F150 and it worked fine. I am wondering if it is desensing the front end in that factory radio.

PAC or someone may make an Aux input adapter for your factory setup, you would get MUCH superior sound that way anyway. Just did a quick search on fleabay and found a Aux Input adapter for supposedly your year of truck for @$32.

Thanks for the input.

Not sure the technology provided to me. But some installers state that my Roady XT is too old. That it requires another modulator. A modulator that is not manufactured anymore or maybe difficult to get. A small black box that has to be installed behind radio - something like a splitter.

Anyway, stopped at Best Buy. Their suggestion is a new unit. And supposedly no modulator is required. I will have to check with them again.

Well, good luck. I'd say call the shifty so-and-so's that run XM Radio. Tell em' yours is broken and you need to cancel your service. Stick to your line. I bet if you agree to re-up your service they will throw in whatever the current equivalent to the Roady is. That is sort of how I got one for my brother, I bought him a year of service and they threw in the Roady (online deal).

One more thing, just for my own curiosity. The FM tuner in my 11' was certainly nothing great. How does yours compare to others you have had? Maybe you have a bum radio, although at the distance and rf level involved that seems unlikely.

My 94' was ok. My 99 could pick up a cricket rubbing its legs together 2 counties over. The 13', haven't a clue if the tuner even works. Never take it off of XM or the stored tunes on the hard drive.
