jonsnow Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 G4Bama, Thanks! That answed a question Ihad about alt gauge fluctuation.
boatcephus Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I have the same issue as the author of this Thread, hoping to find a solution here. 2005 Silverado Z71 Crew Cab, 5.3 "T" series VIN. Have replaced the battery and the alternator (Rebuilt original Alt, then when that didn't help bought one at Autozone, that didn't help, returned it. Bought an Ultima from O'Reilly's, which has been in for the last 4 years). Headlights AND interior lights flicker. Not "on and off", but just the brightness varies. Very annoying. Dash shows a battery alert light, message is "Service Charging System". Took to a dealer back in 2013, they pulled this code from DIC: "50 Engine Electrical. B1492 Generator F-Terminal Circuit. Low-Low voltage from alternator." They wanted to change the alternator, but I was on my 3rd new one so I declined. Notes: I have noticed that the error occurs as a result of a few seconds of idle. What I discovered was that, if I start my truck and immediately throw it in drive and head down the road, I don't get the alert - At least until a stoplight or something that forces me to idle for a few seconds. Supposedly this is due to some preset + or - variation of 5% in the computer. Lately, I started getting a squeal or feedback whine in the right rear speaker. I suspect it's related to this electrical issue, though for 4 years of this Charging System alert, the speaker did not whine until just now. I suspect this is a ground wire connection deteriorating. I have cleaned and tightened the ground wire from the negative battery cable that connects just inside the front left fender. I also cleaned and tightened two grounds I found just under the driver side front door - no change. Are there any other grounds to look at? Does anyone have any suggestions based on the Dealer's code? I am not against (sigh) changing to another alt if that's the consensus. May got with a 160 amp this time just for grins. Also, no aftermarket speakers, amps, stereos, all is bone stock. The trans was rebuilt before this problem began 4 years ago, in case that's a factor. Is there a ground in that area that I could check that might have been loosened? Thanks
redvett Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Code reader = reads only powertrain codes. Scanner = Tech 2 or similar is bi-directional and can read ALL codes and operate many components. 1
The Sicilian Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 G4BAMA - did you ever figure this query out? I have an 06 Silverado Vortec MAX that has the identical problem, & has turned into a "Charging system failure" now & all the interior /gauge lights go black too & my truck stalls out. I charged the battery back up a bit with a portable jumper & left it connected to the battery terminals to get home, Now I'm wondering what I need to replace/fix. I was thinking of starting with the alternator, but I only have 55,000 miles, and thats like 1/3 the usual life. Like most of you I take good care of my truck. I just did an air- oil/filter Oil change & replaced a faulty blower control module https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078J3B4S8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . Im wondering if the control module shorted out b/c of whatever is going on with this message thats been coming on & off for about a year. I was hoping the BCModule fix would make that message go away, it only seem to make it worse-ARG!
Connar wilkins Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 (edited) So my 2013 Silverado had a bad alternator so I put a new battery and new alternator in and it worked fine for 2 days then stoped charging. SO I tested the new alternator and I’m only getting 3 amps to it, it needs 11 to turn on and work, I have checked wires and ground loops but everything checks out and the fuses are all good I’m now stuck and need help? sefiroxx Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Also check your main power wires for good connections
Maximus56 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I read an article that solved this problem. It was the positive cable, inline, 175 amp fuse that's in a box bolted to the fire wall. It's the branch of the positive that goes to the alternator. The fuse cost about $4 from Autozone. Replaced it and haven't had the problem since. Hope this helps. 1
BCmike Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 I have the same exact problem with my 2009 Silverado. The charging system warning, the battery indicator and the head lights kind of flickering. I think I saw someone answer with they cleaned the fuse connections and it seemed to go away and another answer was checking the grounds. Was there a definitive solution? Gbama, did you ever find a solution to yours?

Replaced mega fuse and cleaned contacts, two new alternators, new battery, battery cables are good. Issue was intermittent, seemed to be heat related, now constant. Will not charge at all. Voltage drop from battery to alternator is .15 which seems fine. Good ground to alternator bracket, engine and firewall. Replaced pigtail on top of alternator as well but to no avail.

Chris Wren Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 (edited) There's a video on YouTube that saying it's the battery control module Edited August 12, 2020 by Chris Wren

SilveradoLover1977 Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Could it be the battery current sensor?
