Adding subwoofer to OEM radio helo

does it make any difference in SQ if you have the woofer pointed towards the opposite side passenger door?

Just a word of advise, dont get scammed into buying a name brand amp at so many watts, watts dont matter. What matters in the RMS output of the amp. for instance my amp is like 118 dollar from wal-mart. pioneer 900w amp RMS of 450watts. L7 solo baric takes a max of 750 RMS watts. So Im not stressing the sub but I have enough power getting to it where it beats the doors off turned up!

 

So before you buy a amp figure out the RMS of what speakers you are gonna buy then find a amp that outputs that much RMS or close too! you'll save a lot of money on a amp that way!

thanks for that info! I have a question. Do you have to 9 tail wire the door speakers if you change them out, or could i get better quailty door speakers just plug them in like the factory ones and they be better / louder?

If you stick a 4 cylinder engine in a Ferrari, will it make it any faster? Nope, this is because you still have the exact same power output. Same concept goes into play here. If you change just the speakers, you will achieve more clarity and mid bass and can go a little higher on the volume without distortion but without the addition of an amplifier, you won't reap the benefits.

 

As for changing just the speakers, you have two options. 1st is to cut the two wires close to the plug that connects to the speakers and crimp a speaker terminal to connect to your aftermarket speakers. 2nd option is to leave the plug as is but to splice into the wires and run them to the speakers. This way you can retain the factory plug but allow the connection of aftermarket speakers

thanks for the reply, in my case I think just swapping the speakers to some aftermarket ones will be good enough without adding a amp. My truck volume is pretty good when the l7 is beating but i think just a little bit better speakers would be perfect. And if its not I can always add a amp to it and crank the gain up a little. would you mind to recommend any good D class amp for speakers for a good price by chance?

I purchased this amp for my door speakers (mainly due to cost) and it has been excellent and given me no issues

Couldn't find much for an ABSOLUTE on a stock install for 2016 1500 Silverado LT Crew w/out Bose, but I finally got it figured out and wanted to share in hopes to help someone else.
