Go-Bucky Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I just bought this truck yesterday. '15 Sierra SLT. 2.25 leveling kit. My dealership says they'll work a trade on the stock wrangler SRA's. I'd like to get the truck a bit taller and just slightly more aggressive without doing any lift kits. The dealership recommended either Hankok Dyna Pro or Michelin LTX, both 285-55-20. From what I've read on here, the Michelin LTX are a great tire. I drive mostly highway, but don't want to worry about my tires in the snow or getting on some sketchy trails. Thanks in advance for the input.
Truck.in.Muck Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Can't go wrong with the Michelins. Had em on a previous truck and they were great for mostly highway.
thewhitestallion Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 michilens will be great for the highway and very minor trails. in mud especially heavy mud they wont be that great. they are not very aggressive but they are more aggressive than the wranglers...
2SS/RSD Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Great truck! Michelin LTX work great for me for highway driving here in Pa during the winter months. I don't go off road so can't help with that.....Super tires for the road!
ember1205 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Why are they "working a trade"? They should basically give you full value because they're new and they will sell them to someone as new.
Robert.jean1 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Same reason tire stores will not allow a person to return a tire that's been mounted on a rim and the ones who do allow return charge a penalty at best. The tire officially becomes used after being mounted.
Go-Bucky Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks guys. As for sizing, I'm a Lot of an amateur. The dealership said they'd go 285-55-20. That would add .6 inch height to the tire. Others have said to go 275-60-20, or even 275-65-20. Can anyone give me the 'for dummies' version of the pros and cons to these sizes?
Panik Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Can't give you the pros and cons to the tire sizes. However, I will be the lone dissenter and say that I went from the SR-A's to LT Dyna Pro ATM's and have been very pleased with them so far.
ncorry Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks guys. As for sizing, I'm a Lot of an amateur. The dealership said they'd go 285-55-20. That would add .6 inch height to the tire. Others have said to go 275-60-20, or even 275-65-20. Can anyone give me the 'for dummies' version of the pros and cons to these sizes? http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator Click on the tab in the middle labeled Tire Size Comparison. The SR-As at least on my truck, are 275/55-20 and are 31.9" in diameter and 10.8" wide. The 285/55-20s have a diameter of 32.3" and are 11.2" wide. 275/60s are 33.0" and 10.8" wide, and it has been reported that if you have the front leveled, this size will not rub. (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/175024-3055520-or-2756020/page-5). 275/65s are 34.1" tall and are 10.8" wide. The wider the tire gets, the more air it is pushing, so the more impact to the MPG. The 275/65s might require you to either trim some of the front fender liner or tie it back with zip ties, from what I've read on here.
Go-Bucky Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks ncorry! That was a huge help. I can't imagine what guys like me did before forums. You guys really know your trucks! Only down side is, I've got a wish list about 20 deep because of this site! Cheers
mfbearded Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 so im not argueing any points, just adding another perspective...im dealing with a major reputable tire shop in my area. im having trouble deciding what tire i want so i finally asked if they would bring in two or three im down to and lets see what fits and looks good. they agreed as long as nothing is special order. so as far as once they mounted they are used, that seems questionable, it seems these tires to be traded were driven on.
