Yes 6/30 the fix is going to be programming. here is some info.

Effective immediately, stop the delivery of certain 2014 model year Chevrolet Silverado LD and GMC Sierra LD vehicles in new or used vehicle inventory. General Motors has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about an upcoming safety recall that involves these vehicles. The GM recall number is 17276.

It is a violation of federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification until the defect is remedied.

General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2014 model year Chevrolet Silverado LD and GMC Sierra LD vehicles. These vehicles may experience a temporary loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist followed by a sudden return of EPS assist, particularly during low-speed turning maneuvers. The loss and sudden return of EPS assist typically happens within a 1 second period and is caused by an electrical/software issue. If EPS assist is lost and suddenly returned, the driver could lose temporary control of the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

To correct this condition, dealers will reprogram the EPS module software.

Wow, that is perfect timing for me. Is there a publication you read that information in or are you connected with a dealership and have seen that notice. I sure could use more information to help me save lots of bucks.

Thanks in advance !

That is interesting and I believe that is what happened to the other person in my company. My truck completely lost the power steering . The dealership has ordered a steering box assembly and after it sat a day waiting for parts it lost all electrical power. I bet there is a loose or bad ground somewhere .

Thanks

That is text from a stop delivery notice that is on GM dealer website. looks like the recall is going to be 17276. if you go to your dealer they can run your vin and tell you if it applies to your specific vehicle. It will show up as "remedy pending"

Thank you,

I did a search on line for outstanding recalls. My vehicle does fall into this recall GM# n172085440, the NTSB has not assigned a number yet. I would guess that is because it seems all government employees are off this week.

I am interested how this will affect the charges I have been quoted to repair my faulty steering and since I am new to this forum I am not sure if it is observed by any GM influential employees. I am hoping it is and they will get involved.

Since I don't know how that works any information or advice is welcome.

Happy Independence Day!

I had the recall performed after all the symptoms and then some.  Also dealer said the alternator was putting out 16 volts and replaced that and the ECM.  Two weeks later when I stop the vehicle it totally loses power, won't start, won't lock, no lights, dead.   If i remove the positive connection and place back everything returns.  It is getting worst, happened when I got home Monday night and today at my office.  This happened before the recall and the dealer work performed also.  It actually stopped while I was turning to go over a rail road track, about 25 feet from the track.  Removed the positive lead and all good.  Any ideas?   I am about to have it towed to the dealer the next time it does it so they can see what's up with it in that state.   Someone told me it could be a bad computer.   It's sitting outside dead right now, key fob won't lock or unlock doors.

I've had similar issues once. I replaced the battery and all has been fixed. Mid way driving up a mountain and I started getting stabilitrak errors and then the entire thing cut out. Later on a couple weeks truck wouldn't start, but low power lights would turn on. I had to put a jump start charger on it for about an hour before it would go. Replacing my battery seemed to fix all of my issues. I don't know if its worth a shot for you or not as yours seem a bit more severe.

I have replaced the battery twice, once about a year ago when I had similiar problems like you described, again just before the recall as it started stopping.  I had read many post about people changing the battery even though the battery tested good so I did again and problem went away for about two weeks.  I then did the recall and the work noted in the original post and things seem good again for about two weeks.  All other issues like service theft deterrent system and other notices went away but this power loss issue has resurfaced again.  This battery is probably less than two months old.

Just a guess, do you have anything plugged into your center console 12v outlets? I know they're originally set to always on and unless you changed it to accessory, its a possibility. Just gonna have to try random things. Maybe you have a phantom drain going on. Have you also checked the ground? theres a recall for a ground that caused a whole bunch of problems too.

Thanks for the reply snowbrdd.  I have read of the ground issues and the fixes.  I don't recall seeing a recall on this vehicle for the ground issues.  What it's doing now is random electrical power losses.  I can tell when it happens or has happened.  When I turn the vehicle off, everything goes off...radio, interior lights dash.  The vehicle will not start and is totally dead.  If I remove the positive battery cable and reinstall the vehicle is powered back up.  This happend to me twice last week, Monday when I got home and Wednesday at noon at my office.
