I'm with you on this...I heard about some faulty grounds causing similar conditions some time ago, but can't seem to find the thread now.

Update: It is at the dealer today. Hopefully they don't tell me they couldn't find anything wrong. As we called it a "CND" in the Air Force. "Could not Duplicate malfunction". Pilots hated that, and I know why.

Dealer called to say they found my negative battery terminal loose. I've owned it 13 months and put 10,000 miles on it. Only been in for A/C hose shrader valve replacement in that time. I've never touched battery. At least they aren't charging me. Hope they are right.

I have seen this before...not a bit surprised. Evidently it doesn't take much to affect things.

I like all the electrical doodads, but it scares me how high-tech we have become. I would have been ok with power doors and windows. Haha

I have had the same exact issue with my truck; however, this whole reduced steering scared the crap out of me since I almost hit a car as I was pulling into a drive way. I have had this problem occur 3 times and in each case, the dealer could not duplicate the problem. Have you had any issues since?

Excellent news, I was hoping that's all it was. Forums feed on negative information and it's good this was any easy fix. Probably a Friday 4:55pm truck and Bob was watching the clock as he installed the cables.

I waited about a week to post a final report. All is well with the electrical system. Several short trips, bumpy roads and a highway trip later and still flawless. Still love my Sierra.

Just got my truck yesterday, I had the exact same thing happen to me! I had turned the wheel sharply to exit a park on the street. It felt like the wheel was stopped by the curb. Then it shook and shuddered, loss power, loss radio station, noticed the erroneous temp later, was prompted to roll down the driver's window to reset. What does that have to do with anything???? I posted this same description in the New Members forum too. I'll check the (-) cable later this evening.

I just had my 2014 GMC Sierra lost all power steering while driving on the highway. It was all I could do to get it off the road and to a safe place to get towed. The dealer has it now and has diagnosed it as needing a new steering gear. They had to order the part so I had to stop by and get some of my things out of it for work the next morning.

 

I was surprised that the key fob I had would not unlock the doors. I then used my key and found the whole electrical system shut down. I opened the hood and checked the battery terminals and they were both tight on the top. That doesn't necessarily mean a ground may have not come loose. I informed the service manager . I now came across this today while searching for similar problems. Interesting !

I just wanted to add. My company has 6 2104 GMC Sierra's. Mine is the second one to experience power steering problems at just around 100,000 miles.

 

The other one would have a ghost driver that would turn the wheel at slow speeds and take the wheel out of the drivers control. That was diagnosed as a bad ground but had the problem once again after it was supposedly fixed.

 

The driver felt unsafe in the vehicle since he nearly hit one of his clients in a parking lot who was a witness to the event.

 

This is a situation GM needs to take seriously .
