Coolant leak came back after replacing water pump

Hi all,

About 4-5 months ago, I bought a 2002 Yukon XL, and it was leaking coolant a day later, so I took it to my dad's repair guy, and he replaced the water pump. about 5,000 miles later, i got a low coolant light when I was running the AC in town, so I topped it off, and it didn't come on for a while. This past weekend I went camping about 4 hours away, and when I started coming back, the radiator started making a grinding noise, like the fan was getting caught up or something, and the coolant light came back on. It smelt like coolant under the hood. I can't tell where its coming from. I refilled it, and that got me home without any low coolant messages, but the radiator still made that sound. Thoughts? Should I call that mechanic again? He's about an hours drive away, and I don't really want to drive it that far if I don't have to. It's not leaking like it did when I replaced the water pump, it just poured out back then, now it still holds most of it.

New parts fail too. But I would be looking at the overflow tank, lines/hoses/clamps for leaks. Found a pinhole in a radiator hose the other day that only showed up under high pressure

DIY? The cooling system isn't rocket science and you will save $$$ in labor, and can probably get parts cheaper too.

you need to pressure check the system with the truck running, noise in the radiator can be air in the system. it could be a head gasket specially if your using coolant and can not find a leak
