What a weekend

Figured I would let you guys know what I was up to this weekend, or more specifically Saturday night.  Didn't get to go to work on Sat. because it had been raining steadily since Friday evening and things were too muddy to do any farm work.  So about 9:30 I was sitting at home getting ready to head out to the bar early because the hot little bartender asked me to come in when it wasn't busy so we could figure out when we were going out on a date.

As I'm sitting there I get a call from my buddy needing a favor.  Turns out he got himself stuck in a ditch (he drives a 85 K10 with 4" of lift and 33" swampers) on the way into town from his house.  He needed someone with a 4wd to come pull him out, and I was the closest to where he was at.  He said it should be an easy pull and would have no problem getting him out.  I figured what the heck, this won't take very long and I can still make it to the bar early.  So I head out in the rain and pull out my buddy.  I get to where he is stuck without a problem and he hooks up the straps.  Put the old truck down in 4Low and started pulling.  Things were going as planned until his front axle dropped off in an unseen hole (covered by water).  It couldn't have happened at a worse time because I was on a section of road that was sloped very steeply into the ditch.  Well when his truck hit that hole it jerked by backend down into the ditch.   He got out and unhooked the staps but it was no good.  I couldn't get enough traction to get out of the ditch and the front end was gradually sliding down into the ditch as well.  So here we are with two stuck trucks.  My right rear actually fell so far into the ditch that it was completely covered in water.

We have other buddies with 4wd trucks, but figured it would be best to just call a wrecker.  If more trucks came down the road to pull us out it simply would have rutted up the road to no end.  So out comes the wrecker.  He gets there and has to use snatch blocks to pull our front ends from the ditch and then winches us to solid ground.  But that was far from the end of our troubles.  You see, in Saline county Kansas it is a misdemeanor to rut up county roads by driving down them while they are muddy.  And as luck would have it, a county sheriff just happened to come down to the nearest intersection and proceeded to wait on us.  We drive up there after paying our wrecker bills ($120 apiece) and the sheriff stops us.  He asks what the heck we were doing on this road in the rain and why we got stuck.  We explain that my buddy got stuck on his way to town and that I was trying to pull him out.  Unfortunately the sheriff didn't care, and wrote us both up with a citation.

So this weekend I got my truck buried in the mud, had to pay a $120 wrecker bill, didn't get to meet the hot bartender and probably blew my chance with her, and now have a May 14th court date to find out my fine for tearing up the county road.  Which btw, the fines for that generally run around $500.  Not to mention the fact that my truck is covered in mud and will take forever to clean.  Hope everyone elses weekend went better.

BUMMER!! And that is one or those stories that if you were to tell the hot bartender she might not believe it, so make sure you show her the ticket. Don't give up on her. Go for it!

My weekend was great. Monday is mine and Tim's anniversary so we celebrated today. We went for a hike in the San Jacinto Mts. It was great!

Now, the only real question is did you get any cool pics

Just Kidding.  Sorry to hear about that.  You are really getting stiffed for trying to be a nice guy and help your buddy out.  Is he paying for the wrecker fee for you?

If they had that silly law here I would be bankrupt   :seeya:

Same here.  Half the roads in this area are dirt/gravel.  I'd have to stay home every time I saw a rain cloud!

haha sounds like a great weekend

I am currently laying a backyard of sod.  I have to go get a truckload of dirt soon.  Should be fun.

When i was piking up sod they put a pallet of sod into a gmc 2500 then hooked a trailer onto it and drove a bobcat onto the trailer.  barely even squated.
