LED install with resistors.

So I got 4 LEDs from DDM tuning and realized that i had hyper flash. So I ordered load resistors from Amazon and they were really easy to install. My biggest concern was which wires to tap into. I had green black and brown wires so I did a little research and I couldn't find anything. So I took a chance with the black and green and it worked!! No more hyper flash. My other concern was that the resistor gets really hot. It can't touch plastic cause it would burn it. So I threw it behind the openings of the metal frame and zip tied them so it can't fall towards the tail light and other plastic parts.

Willie,

I have a 15 Denali. What bulbs did you use again, and did you say they were LEDs?

Im pretty sure it's these http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/3156-3157-27x2835

Yes they are LEDs and I defentaly notice in the day time that there brighter! The only reason how I know is cause when I bought the LEDs I only bought two thinking that's all I needed so I installed the top lights on both side and you can defentaly see the difference. Oh and the response time on the LEDs was faster then the halgeon bulbs

Thanks a lot man. I need to check them out.. As you stated it was sort of a challenge initially to install?

Yeah the challenge was to figure out what wires I had to splice into and where to mount the resistor.

So did you need to run two separate resistors because just having one didn't have enough resistance? The reason I ask is I ran one resistor on each side in the main line. And still getting hyper flash.

Yeah I ran a resistor for each bulb. I haven't heard anybody running one on the main wires. Hope this helps

FYI, i have multiple sets of these LEDs fail on me. I did not know until nice people waived me to the side and let me know.

I end up using the Philips ones, street legal. They are probably 80% bright of the ones i have had but they are going strong so far.

Question, I am in the process of upgrading my tail lights to LED and installing the resistors which it says to screw to metal, only problem is I keep snapping the heads off of the small # 4 sheet metal screws, I read where you were using zip ties, will the heat from the resistor melt the zip ties ? seems like zip ties would be the easier way to go, but was concerned about the heat buildup ? any one have any suggestions ? thanks
