20" wheels vs 18"

Took my 20" off today and put on 18", put a bigger tire than stock and no rubbing. Thinking I could have gone a little bigger. No turns on bars. Ride is so much better with more sidewall. 275/70/18

I always preferred more rubber than wheel on a truck, but I am the minority with today's trucks. A 20" wheel should have been a decent ride on your truck though, the tread is definitely on-road versus off-road. How much weight came off the axles with the change? What was the reason for the change?

I love the look of the 20"s all day .....its a great balance of wheel & enough rubber to still ride nice

I do a lot of hunting, the 18" with more rubber rides so much better. 20" I felt everything, 18" the ride is much nicer by far

My buddy had 18's and I had 20' on the same exact truck and I noticed no different but the 20's looking much better IMO

I am also a fan of smaller wheels and bigger rubber. I'd rather scuff rubber than a wheel. I'm amazed at how many trucks at the dealerships have 20" wheels on them - its actually difficult to find trucks that have wheels less than 20" wheels. If I had to choose between 17" wheels and 20" wheels, I would take 17" every time - but I think the 18" wheels size is a pretty good compromise. I guess I'm just old school like that....

My last duramax an 06 had 16".... That's how I noticed the diff. The selection of tires is huge for 18" compared to 20". It's a preference for sure but I'm happy with my choice. Love the look, yes I'm old school I would say.

Ok, got it, makes sense. For hunting you probably could have gone with maybe a 16" wheel and a little bit more bite on the rubber

I'm with this all the way, but for a "street truck", I find 20's provide the best ride. The width and height of the 20 on a truck minimizes roll while still providing a level of comfort, although I never drove anything larger. After driving 35 years on Southern California fast lanes, the 20s provided the type of ride and control I feel necessary to drive next to a concrete wall doing close to 80 mph.

16in. wheels will not fit over the massive 14in. disk brakes.

 

Nice part about the HD GMC trucks is both the 18in. and 20in. wheels are both beautiful!

A lot of folks, Socal is more than just highway, in 3 hours you can be in the mountains or at the beach. 4WD comes in handy in the snow and sand.

I believe the stock 18 carry more weight if you haul a lot.
