Check engine light after long trips

I drive a 2004 Chevy 2500hd with a 6.0 vortec. After a long trip of 30+ miles the check engine light comes on. It will go away the next day after 10 minutes of driving it. The only mods I have are exhaust and intake. Any ideas on what is causing the engine light

I haven't put a code reader to it, because it goes away before I can read it

The code should be stored so you can read it.
