Rust Proofing - After picking truck up.

Just an after video of my truck after picking it up from the rust proofing place here in Midland MI. They are known for doing most of the newer vehicles here in Central MI. Was lucky to get in before the snow fell. Took a cancellation, they are booked out until February.

Title of the video has to do with something else my son and I did that night, so wait a few seconds and the truck portion will come.

Cleaned up ok after going through the car wash, the door sills needed to be degreased so my son wouldn't get stuff all over his clothes. Windows could use a good hand wash. Some portions are showing some hazing from the grease left on the windows.

I believe this is still worth doing. The family has done their vehicles for some time now and I know first had that my fathers original 2000 Silverado was done once and then a retouch was done and at 12 years there was no rust whatsoever on it.

Im still a believer.

Truck part of the video is short but watch the whole video, you may enjoy it.

Thanks

From what I could tell everything was coated, even the exhaust. Door holes were filled, the bottom side of the truck looked brand new (freshly wet), there was also stuff dripping from the corners of the bumpers.

What's the deal with rustproofing? Is it effective? My brother in law's dad swears by it and even drives 3 hours and stays overnight to have an out of town place do all of his new trucks. Yet my dealer, who is the king of selling snake oil, told me it's completely unnecessary.

I have a 2016 Denali on order, so I'm trying to decide what to have done out of the gate.

Get mine done bye a company called carwell, oil based as well I swear bye it, I can post pics of my 05 later, worth noting sometimes the oil swells the rubbers, I removed all lower strippibg on bottom inside of doors, all they do is trap crap anyway and start the rust

My 2000 GMC looks brand new underneath, yes it works.

I use the GM black frame wax in a can for all black areas and then coat EVERYTHING with fluid film, I do this at the end of EACH fall.

Yep FF once a year is all it takes to keep rust away.

Henderson Brothers is the business that did mine, that have been around since the 60's. Pretty sure its the only true rust proofing company in the area that has a good reputation. It cost just north of $400 to do so I feel its not that big of an investment to keep the truck protected. Getting it in before the salt hits on a snow virgin vehicle is that much more peace of mind as well... they also do cars in the winter time with no issues. The pre wash the car, inside the doors, and drain ports before putting the grease formula in.

Hope you enjoyed, its always interesting what people say about rust proofing... even here in MI people second guess it.

What kind of fluid film do you use?

Nice looking truck! Are you claiming to the benefits of rust proofing?

Another key saver to these trucks are the mud guards. From the vehicles that I see these days that have blown out rockers are people that don't have mud guards and the people that live on dirt roads. I have yet to purchase some but do believe they also save the bottom side of our trucks.

My fathers 2000 also had the molded mud gaurds, only reason for trading it in at the time was the $4.00 gas prices and it needed tires, new hubs (ABS was coming on randomly in drive through's), and gas pump sending unit.

I have used everything from the spray cans to 1 gal to 5 gal, a cheap spray gun and hot gallon with the truck on the lift works wonders, cost about $70

Yes, bjm, like I said I swear bye it, but I also was n wax and have ocd compared to most, wax jambs and all before oiling, I believe in oil not the coating stuff as that actually creates pockets and trouble starts in the pockets
