i was wondering how much weight can safely be hauled in the bed of my truck. It's a 2015 5.3 3.42 gears crew cab 1500.

Look at your door sticker

That number will be the total combined weight of passengers, gear, and your load

The door sticker rules. Payload will likely work out to about 1700 lbs. (including driver, passengers and cargo)

 

Exact number depends on installed options.

 

Axle limits may also restrict loading location. ( eg you won't be able to load 1500lbs behind the rear axle and meet the individual axle restrictions)

 

And yes, lots of them are operated with loads above the rating.
