TPMS Problems

HI All. I've read a lot about the TPMS system not working....I'm in the same boat. 2007 GMC Sierra SLT.

I've tried every which way to get the horn to chirp and it doesn't. Air decrease, air increase, 5 seconds and wait, 10 seconds and wait...30 seconds and wait....rub my belly and pat my head...etc

Anyway, nothing works so I figure I'm choosing between either waiting a day at the dealer or not having an operational TPMS system.

Or....I read somewhere that the parking brake must be set. I haven't done that. Is that a MUST do, or SHOULD do?

Has anyone relearned tire positions without having the parking brake set? I just don't want to drive all the way to the free air gas station for the 10th time to find out! :)

Thanks in advance.

I think there was an update to fix that issue on some of the earlier '07s that would not go into learning mode properly. However, you do not need to set the parking brake. Any reputable tire shop will do your reset for cheap or no money at all.

The TPMS sensore do wear out. I had a set of rims from a H3 I used on my Colordo and one tire just had a bad sensor. I had it replaced and no mor issues.

The batteries in them die.

On my 2011 which is not supposed to be able to use the air out method, I successfully set them this way:

Wait at least 20 minutes with no tire movement or pressure changes (including the set just removed if you are swapping winter/summer).

Have the tires aired up above the low pressure threshold - say 32-35 PSI.

When the light indicates the wheel to synchronize -

quickly let out a lot of air so the sensor goes below the low pressure alert value.

Works for both my OEM and aftermarket set. It may seem like it is taking forever but keep letting air out until the horn chirps.

I never set the parking brake.

I took my 08 to the dealer since dic was always showing low pressure. Claimed they reset due to the larger wheels but the dic is still the same. Does anyone think its the TPM bad because they need replaced? Dealer said all is normal and they have no clue. Any ideas?

They don't work but the dealer says all is normal? Sounds like they just don't want to be bothered with you.

You could buy an aftermarket TPMS and see if it can be paired with the truck to see if yours are bad or if the problem is with the receiver unit.
