Hesitation and chugging

I bought my 1st GM vehicle. After five Ford Rangers and a slew of Fusions The New Canyon came out. The combination of style, size and talk about quality got me to decide on a new Canyon SLT 4x4. Within says of taking delivery I noticed a hesitation I think feels like an engine miss. In addition the truck has issues with searching for the right gear and that magnifies the feel of the engine miss. After 4 weeks, 4500 miles and 3 visits to the dealer. I get...the truck shows no codes, we cannot duplicate your problem, we have driven it for days and notice nothing and finally when we go for a ride together I am told that the hesitation I point out is normal. At times the truck will not accelerate to speed on an on ramp without a dramatic repeated hesitation. I understand that GM won't let the dealer do anything if there are no codes. Is this correct? Does anyone have any similar experiences? Any suggestions on a fix?

I went through the same scenario when I received my Canyon in September, as did a few others on this forum... I was a Toyota owner prior - two 4x4 trucks and a 4Runner since 1981. Over 400K without a problem! My brother worked for GM for more than 40 years, so I (very reluctantly...) purchased my Canyon on the GM Family First plan. Don't worry about it. Apparently, the engine's computer analyzes your driving style and, over time, will learn to make minute engine/transmission adjustments that magically "fix" the odd behavior. In my case, I live where there are a lot of gentle hills - whenever I approached a hill, I could feel the engine start to lug, and the tranny would try to figure out what the hell it was suppose to do. By that time, you've likely already started mashing the accelerator to make it up the hill (which probably messes with the computer even more...). I went back to GMC a few times and bitched just like you - they swear that the computer says everything is fine, and you're imagining things. Sounds like BS, but believe me - the damn truck will adapt all on it's own. In a month or two, you'll love your truck again! It's crazy... But it SHOULD go away. Mine did. If it DOES come back, I'll be trading it in for another Toyota... :nopity:

The dealer says that the trans should have adapted by now. The thought now is that perhaps the time spent with them moving the truck on the lot may have screwed with the learning mode. The transmission memory was wiped today to start learning again. We will see. Ran like crap when I got it back. The dealer used all the gas so within 5 miles of the dealer I had to put gas in. I put in premium and the problem was reduced by 90% immediately. I don't think this is a transmission issue other than the hunting for the right gear. I think it is engine/fuel management related. But, I don't really know.
