Assistance with Troubleshooting Morimoto Issue

Hey Folks,

I have a 2014 Denali 1500 with the Sierra Morimoto Kit Installed. It is installed exactly how the instructions say and has been working great since March. In the last couple of weeks I have been driving and all of a sudden both headlights will go out completely. All other lights stay on. If I turn the truck off and start it again the lights will come back on. There does not seem to be any rhyme nor reason to when it does it. My commute is about 40 mins all highway. Sometimes it does not happen sometimes (tonight) I pretty much had to do the whole drive with just my fogs on.

I have checked all of the connections and they are tight and sealed. The ballast do not seem to be making any high pitched whines or other noises. The only thing that is different is that it has started to get cold out (-20C) today. The truck is parked in a garage at home and parkade at work. Does not seem to be any correlation going from warm to cold or vice versa. I am thinking it might be a bad ballast on the passenger side that it screwing with the whole system but this is definitely not my forte. Any suggestions to try before I drop $$$ at the repair shop?

Thank you,

Brad

+1 sounds like ballast or perhaps canbus harness. Your Morimoto vendor should help with either replacement or troubleshoot, I believe the newest versions have a 5 year warranty IIRC.

FWIW, while mine are only a month old and include the canbus harness, they've seen deep subzero many nights here including -18F with no issues. Good luck, huge pucker factor to have lights cut out underway.

Talking to a guy at work here and he mentioned it might be a bad ground. Guess I will get the dremel out tomorrow and make sure it is solid.
