2 weeks ago I traded my 2014 2WD Toyota Tundra CrewMax in for a 2015 Sierra Denali Crew CAB 4WD 5.3L. Thanks to this forum, I got some great ideas and advise on modifying my truck. Here is what I have done so far...

  • 2-inch Fabtech Level Kit
  • 305/55r20 Nitro Terra Grappler G2's
  • Removed Factory Running Boards
  • 35% Ceramic Tint on the front windows
  • removed GMC logo from the tail gate
  • blacked out GMC logo on the grill
  • installed Thule Xporter Pro Bed Racks

So far, I'm really happy with the truck. The level turned out really nice, but I definitely feel the road a lot more now. It doesn't have that silky smooth ride it did with the stock wheels and tires, but it still rides much better then my Tundra. Road noise is minimal, just slightly louder then stock. There is absolutely no rubbing, and the shop didn't have to trim at all. They did pull the fender lenders back using zip ties though. I only have 500 miles on the truck, so its really hard for me to know if milage was effected with the level and added rubber.

As far as future mods are concerned, i plan on adding AMP power running boards, LED headlight and fog lights, a hard trifold tonneau cover, and and AMP research bed extender.

The only thing I'm not really happy with is the transmission. Im doing my best to just ignore it, but It always seems to not know what gear to be in. Im sure i'll get used to it over time.

All in all, I'm very happy with the truck. I love driving it, and look forward to putting many many miles on it over the years.

Here is a pic i took after picking it up from the shop (un washed):

Truck looks great. Congrats

Thanks Stevens14! I love the Iridium on yours. I love it so much, I ALMOST pulled the trigger on a 2015 SLT with Iridium until the deanship gave me a great deal on the black Denali. If they have an Iridium Denali, i would have bought that.

Looks perfect! I'm running the G2 in a 285/45/22 and the road manners are great, should be even better with the increased sidewall on the 305/55.

Thanks Kennerz, I'm looking forward to putting some mileage on this beast. I really happy so far.

do you think you would have any rubbing issues with the 305/55 on the factory wheels? I'm debating on what route I want to go right now. I found a nice fabtech 4" for the magna ride but claims you can't run factory wheels which I don't get since all it is spacers and new UCA's and a diff drop bracket. I don't really want to buy new rims yet.

What size wheels are these? 20x9 with a +20? I didnt realize 305 55s would fit! You just cost me $ haha

They are 20x9 with a +14 offset. They fit really well, and as mentioned I don't rub at all, even at full lock. I really like the look of a 0 offset, but I don't want to deal with any rubbing. The +14 is a good compromise. The tires stick out about an inch past the fenders.

Good luck on your purchase!

I'm not sure. I think some guys have done that on this forum. I'd do a quick search. Good luck

Looks great! I hope to get my Suspensionmaxx 2" level kit, 22" CK156's, and 305-45-22 Terra Grapplers installed in the next week or two. Cannot wait!

A lot of guys have relocated their shock sensors with custom brackets and retain near-stock ride. I think it's a crazy idea personally to buy a Denali for the amazing godsend that is the MagneRide and then destroy it with a lift or level. You can get most of the ride quality back.

What kind of MPG do you get with this setup? Did you notice a drop in MPG when you put the tires on?

I average about 15.8 MGP according to the computer. I only had 300 miles on the truck before the new set up, so i never got any comparison data. According to what others are getting with stock set up, im guessing I lost about 3MPG.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
