Place to stash Dash-Cam hardwired regulator box?

I'm going to hardwire a dash-cam into my 2010 Silverado 1500. The wire will run under the leading edge of the headliner and down the drivers A-Pillar.

The hardwire kits all have a small regulator box to reduce from 12v to 5v. Some have the regulator box closer to the mini-USB port and others have it closer to the opposite end. The size of the box also varies from kit to kit.

With a kit like this one, the regulator is very close to the mini-USB, so it would have to be tucked behind/under the headliner.

Is there adequate room to do this without having an unsightly bulge in the headliner? Would it be better to plan to have it stowed behind the A-pillar trim?

I'd go with this kit for ease of install. The angled USB may work better in some cases.

i used a hardwire kit for a garmin gps, has the same little box as that one. Now my truck is an 06 but i think the 10s have the same amount of space under the liner but you have to push a few inches back to clear sheetmetal. My camera sits pretty high since i took the mirror out so it wasnt an issue for me.

On the angled usb end, it depends on where it connects to the camera, mine is on top so the straight one works better for me

Yes, it depends. On the camera I'll likely be using, a straight plug is better suited.

You can find what you need if you look. I would think running just cable in the headliner would be easier than shoving the little box in there.

Straight end http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-USB-Car-Step-Down-Cable-12v-To-5v-For-Car-GPS-Dash-Camera-Hard-Wire-Adapter-/111750031942?hash=item1a04d22a46:g:oh0AAOSwv0tVUAi4

Yes, ideally I'd prefer not to have to stuff the transformer behind the headliner. But I haven't seen any with enough cable on the mini-USB side of the cable to make it from the kick panel to the camera.

The one in your link is 2.5m overall (about 8 feet) but it doesn't indicate where the transformer is positioned. For $5, it's worth buying since it appears to have a good amount of cable on the mini-USB side.

Thanks.

I figure at the very least it will make it to the A pillar for sure and you can leave it there.
