Exterior temperature swinging

I have read a few threads with the exterior temp reading incorrectly but mine is just weird. When I am driving the thing starts swinging pretty wildly..... was anywhere from -7 to -22 on the drive home last night and that was within a few minutes for that spread. Normally when a resistance temp device fails it just reads open, shorted or maybe wrong..... this is like a wiring problem lol as it just constantly dances around. Sitting stationary.... it stays pretty steady at roughly what ambient temp is. I guess swap the sensor first and see what happens lol. Anyone else have theirs do this?

The sensor on GMpartsdirect was a whopping $5..... lol. So up here at the dealer would be $50.... seriously. Needless to say I will swap it out and see if that fixes the problem lol.
