Looking into adding a 40 series or 10 series flow master with turndown in my 2014 5.3 Sierra. Any advice on which might be best? I did hear there is sort of a drone when in v4.. Any advice is helpful. I do a lot of high way driving. Want to sound aggressive not overly annoying when I have my daughter

The 10 series is gonna give you drone period IMO. The 40 series on my 02 gave off drone, if you don't want drone I would look into a MagnaFlow or Borla muffler. If you don't want v4 drone deactivate it with a range AFM unit or a tuner. The v4 is actually bad for these trucks. On my dad's 09 it wiped the cam lobes (created flat spots). Had to get it replaced at 103k, just out of warranty. Go figure.

Just my .02 on more than you asked for lol

If you have kids that will be riding I would steer away for the 40 or 10 series, especially with the turn down. If you want to stick with Flowmaster I would go with the Big Block series, it will be the calmest under normal driving. Magnaflow would be the best bet though as others have said unless you just love the Flowmaster tone.

You don't want either of those. Trust me! If you want a Flowmaster go with the 50 Deltaflow, it is great. 'Kinda like that Goldilocks story, Not too hot, not too cold, JUST RIGHT! And turn downs are a bad idea also if you are worried about drone, You are just 'gonna turn the trucks bed into a bass drum with turn downs, don't ask me how I know haha. A Maggie 14 or 18 inch muffler would also be a good choice. I would recommend the 18 inch if you aren't going to disable V4. I had the 14 inch with duel turn downs on my last '14 Silvy. It sounded AWESOME at WOT but V4 was HORRIBLE! Borla is also an even better choice but expensive. Try the FMaster 50. Below is a pic of the Maggie 14 and as you can see it a very good built product. But loud.

Yeah I would not go with Flowmaster, have just heard from many that the quality is so much better elsewhere.

I would go with a 14" Magnaflow or Borla XR1.

Great, thank you for the advice. I was told I could shut off the v4 but would cost me about 300$. Do you know if there's going to be a huge difference? MPG, ride quality etc.

The series 50 is for diesel engines.

You should look at a Flowmaster 40 series DeltaFlow.

Maybe get the muffler man to cut the stock one and weld this one in. Hold on to the stock one if the muffler man doesnt have any use for it. Keep everything else stock to begin with, IMO.

After doing this, you can then add a tip, get a bigger after muffler pipe bent, headers, or go to a regular 'original' series 40 muffler. Check out their website.

Dynamax sounded good

Borlas are kind of throaty

Magnaflow, im not sure

Thrush I think is for them blue ovals

Full Boars impressed me

Or you could just delete the muffler, but performance would probably suffer (and your headaches may increase in severity and frequency).

A lot of people have saved money by just doing a muffler delete with these new trucks. i was kind of skeptical about it at first, because with older trucks, they would become obnoxiously loud with their mufflers cut off. But there are quite a few videos on youtube of guys who did a muffler delete and it sounds good. i decided to do it and i love it. It sounds powerful when i give it gas but its not obnoxiously loud. And when Im cruising, i do a lot of highway driving, It's still nice and quite. As for the V4 drone, I've read mixed reviews about it with the muffler delete. Personally i have no V4 drone in my truck. Ive had multiple people ride in it expecting drone but they were surprised when there was nothing.

I have the flowmaster 40 series with turndowns and the Range AFM to delete v4. My cousin has the 10 series and I can noticeably tell his is louder than mine. The 40 series has a deeper tone than 10 which is what I wanted. As for turndowns, the driver and person sitting shotgun won't really notice any drone but the people in the backseats will have some. For right now I just have it dumped in front the rear axle until I get my drop kit installed. Then I'll get the exhaust shop to add a piece of pipe to have it exiting by the rear bumper. This will help decrease the drone in the rear of the cab. With any exhaust you get, v4 will sound like crap so do yourself a favor and get the range AFM disabler ($150) or get a tuner ($300-$500). IMO, the magnaflow exhaust is nice and better built than flowmaster but not loud enough on these trucks, unless you get headers and delete the cats, that's why I went with flowmaster.
