Small chip in chrome rims

Hey guys.

 

I have a small chip in the chrome on the backside of my rims. These are OEM gm 22in chrome rims off my ltz. Everyone keeps telling me there is nothing you can do to stop it from spreading but I have a hard time believing there is some kind of sealent or something you can't put over it to at least slow it down. If there is nothing then how long do you think it will be until it spreads to the outside of the rim. Attached is a pic

I've used clear fingernail polish on areas where wheel weights were put on the outer face from the factory. I always have the weights removed and balanced with weights on the inside, like you have. Better than nothing.
