MBRP Exhaust questions 3" or 3.5"

Wow just listened to some bids. Can't tell what they have exhaust wise ( headers, manifolds). Some start and are AGRESSIVE and some sound low key. Sounds nice. Will you be Y' ing the pipe after the muffler or a single out.

That's not always true. I had a full exhaust ( header collector back) x pipe, flow master mufflers, dual 2.5 inch done at a shop that was local guy not a mieneke or something like that and at those places you can specify your wants. Straight out the back, angles behind tires, pipe size ect and get a nice exhaust. Mine was mandrel bent, no kinks and ran me 550. This was on a 79 Malibu. Sounded ferocious and was much cheaper that a summit or jegs catalog exhaust of flow master, borla or such. The mandral bent is key. That is where you lose power by pitching the pipe size. Heck most if not all factory exhausts aren't mandrel bent plus going to big in pipe diameter can lose power

Never said it was always true. I stated most shops. There are a few specialty guys out there but you have to find them. Most people don't know about those guys and end up getting crap. We've all seen that rusty crap hanging! I was only trying to make buyer aware to be careful and what to look for.

I know exactly what you mean but this isn't some po-dunk run of the mill shop. He has been in business long before I could drive. People come from out of state to have them do custom exhaust on hot rods, show cars, etc. http://www.windsorperformance.com/engine-shots/. He did an amazing job on my '05 1500 5.3L. 3" single exit right in front of the passenger rear tire (side dump).

For the price of what he is doing it, I get exactly what I want pay the same, get a truly custom exhaust, and don't have to install it, it's a deal to me.

Another option is to purchase mandrel bends and bring those to a good exhaust guy if he doesn't have a mandrel. It's what I did when getting the Y-pipe fabbed up on my Camaro. Amazing piece it came out to be and it tucked up so well to the car as ground clearance is always an issue on the 3rg gen F-body and long tubes.

I will doing a Y-Pipe. Hopefully in the next two weeks (or tax money) this will be getting done.

Didn't mean to come off like that. I agree though there are shops that will have crappy welds, not use good metal and make stuff worse than stock. Just gotta look for the reputable shops that have race cars coming in lol. Those guys are the ones that will have good exhaust work

I've been thinking about getting one myself. For the $300 I've seen them go for, it can't be beat!

So here is the update on the BMRP single exit exhaust.... It sounds pretty good. It is a mild exhaust and at some points I wish was a bit louder (keep in mind my dad thinks it a bit too loud at times) The install is smooth and the condition of the aluminumized one has yet to start rusting and I have installed it during winter in Maryland. Only downfall to this exhaust is that the truck seems to go into 4cylinder mode more often then before. It does have a slight drone while in 4cyl but you get use to it after a while. Overall I am pretty happy with it.
