MBRP Exhaust questions 3" or 3.5"

Hey guys, I am looking to get an exhaust for my truck. I was just gonna cut everything off and throw on a spintech muffler and a turn down, but have decided against that. I was looking at the MBRP because they sound good and they are one of the cheaper brands. So my questions to you guys

- I have seen where people ran the 3.5" (designed for 6.2) on a 5.3... I would think this would mess with the back pressure and such

- How do you guys like the exhaust? I have done my research and looked on youtube and it sounds pretty nice. I want somehting that doesnt drone, and is quite at crusing but sounds mean when you step on it.

I would definitely go with MBRP system before using Spintech. Their muffler designs aren't the best for power. They do sound good though. From personal experience on my Camaro, I used a system that came with a Spintech muffler. I decided to change just the muffler out to a Hooker Aerochamber. Picked up 12rwhp. You probably won't gain anything and may not be a direct fit if you went the 3.5" system. Good luck!

Yeah, I did read that the guy that used the 6.2 had to use a flange to get the exhaust to fit on his 5.3

So upon further research I have discovered that Gibson is giving $50 off of thier kits.

I was looking at the Gibson 5656

As far as the MBRP the price is still less (the aluminized one atleast) and it still sounds pretty good just cant find a whole lot of video clips of exhaust tone on the side exit.

I am a huge proponent of Gibson now after installing on my 6.2 AT - make sure you splurge for the 409 stainless tubing w/ 304 polished tips - not aluminized steel - lasts much longer better quality.

I have had flowmaster, magnaflow, JBA, dynamaxx, Lou's custom, borla and corsa - Gibson is the best bang for the buck going, period. Made in the USA, perfect fitment and no leaks for me (I used different HD clamps though in 2 spots)

I would NEVER spend $1200+ on an all 304 stainless exhaust for a truck...it aint a show queen its a TRUCK - if you wanna spend that kinda dough get some headers instead and pick up some actual power and unique sound.

I got the Gibson from autoanything dual side exit - forget the exact name/part number but the tips exit behind each rear wheel, have "Gibson" etched on them (nice touch) double walled, no annoying sound in V4 mode, IMO does not "drone" on highway, but is louder everywhere compared to stock - that's the point.

I have the 6.2 and went with the MBRP aluminized steel kit. I believe the part number is s5086al. I got it from autoanything on sale right around $300. I also had my eye on the metal mulisha from Gibson but for similar sound and the best price I could find was close to $500 it was an easy decision. There are some decent videos out there of both systems if you google them. The MBRP has a great start up sound and good during acceleration. It's loud enough to know its there but not obnoxiously so. Drone really not bad at highway speeds. After a week or so I don't even notice it. Only time I really hear it now is around 30-40 mph when in V4 but I don't really spend a lot of time there so no big deal. I may be able to get a video up of start up if you aren't able to find anything online.

Remember video clips usually make the sound worse than it actually is. Such as the case with MBRP stuff. People say it sounds so much better in person than on video. This typically applies to others as well.

FWIW, I have been looking at exhausts for my truck. Now YMMV, but my local exhaust shop quoted me $475 OTD with a 3030 Aero Turbine muffler, custom angled dual pipes with labor. I would check your local exhaust shops before buying a kit online. Yes I have the tools and more than capable of installing the kit but to get exactly what I want for less than $500 is a deal for me.

The big problem with going local is the horrible bends most shops produce and they typically don't offer aluminized or stainless steel so the quality starts to show within little time. Aftermarket pre-made is much better quality for longer life and will produce some hp with great sound.

That's not always true. I had a full exhaust ( header collector back) x pipe, flow master mufflers, dual 2.5 inch done at a shop that was local guy not a mieneke or something like that and at those places you can specify your wants. Straight out the back, angles behind tires, pipe size ect and get a nice exhaust. Mine was mandrel bent, no kinks and ran me 550. This was on a 79 Malibu. Sounded ferocious and was much cheaper that a summit or jegs catalog exhaust of flow master, borla or such. The mandral bent is key. That is where you lose power by pitching the pipe size. Heck most if not all factory exhausts aren't mandrel bent plus going to big in pipe diameter can lose power

I know exactly what you mean but this isn't some po-dunk run of the mill shop. He has been in business long before I could drive. People come from out of state to have them do custom exhaust on hot rods, show cars, etc. http://www.windsorperformance.com/engine-shots/. He did an amazing job on my '05 1500 5.3L. 3" single exit right in front of the passenger rear tire (side dump).

For the price of what he is doing it, I get exactly what I want pay the same, get a truly custom exhaust, and don't have to install it, it's a deal to me.

This is what I am having him do but not as a true dual setup.

Are you getting the super 10s. That sounds phenomenal. The super 10 has been #1 on my list when the exhaust gets done. Sounds mean, doesn't sound too loud. Just aggressive. Need a bid if that's the muffler. I don't even know what your spending by the muffler and exhaust work I would say no more than ~300. Great sound.

If you are talking to me, I was quoted $475 with an Aero Turbine 3030 muffler and that was out the door pricing. I had one on my 2005 1500 5.3L and loved it! It was aggressive at start up and sounded amazing at cruising speeds. No crackling or popping (which I cannot stand).

Yes I was thought you were getting the super 10. I'll have to check out that muffler you stated
