shift lever boot on column

Hi Guys,

Here's a trick I managed on my 2001 2500HD.

The rubber boot on the column shift lever had split and was hanging in rags. I read the shop manual, and it described taking the shift lever out to renew the boot. My truck has Tow/Haul, so it has that wiring in the lever through to the button on the end of the shift knob.

Hmmmm.

I cut off the ragged boot, and wiped the lever and inside the new boot, with a hand wipe, and guess what! The new boot slid straight on over the shift knob and down to the column! There's a bit of messing with the column shroud to get it located, but the whole job was easy and quick.

Who knows, this might be old hat for some of you guys, but I thought it worthwhile to offer my solution.

Keep smiling, Paul.
