5.3L with 6 speed Tranny or 6.2

I am at decision time on a new 2016 Silverado or Sierra. I can't decide if the 5.3L with the 6 speed transmission is going to please me or not. I really like the cloth buckets in the LT Z71, but want to make sure I am happy towing my boat and wheel fish house. Either item will be about 5,000 lbs.

 

If I get the 5.3L, how much is a tune to increase power?

I have the 6 speed Silverado 5.3L with max tow package and I tow a boat without even really feeling it to be honest. I still got 14mpg towing it too.

I had a 2014 with the 5.3 and 6 speed, it pulled my bass boat just fine. Just picked up my new 2016 with the 6.2L and 8 speed, best thing I ever did...no regrets!!

I would do the 6.2. its the only thing id change about my 2014. infortunately when i bought mine the 6.2 wasnt an option yet

It's just a bummer you can't get the 6.2 in the LT package. I don't care for leather or the additional price of the LTZ package.

The 5.3 with the 3.42 axle is rated to tow 9100 lbs the same as the 6,2 with a standard axle. The 5.3 costs less, burns regular fuel and gets better mileage.

While the 5.3 does use regular, it has been noted by several of us it shouldn't run any less than 89 and really should be running 91. As far as mileage the 6.2 gets the same mileage as the 5.3, on paper they were only off by 1mpg but the reality is they are the same.

6.2L no regrets. I was in the same boat as you and didnt care for leather but I wanted the 6.2L more. After having an older 5.3l that had to downshift pulling a trailer down a hill to maintain speed, there was no way I wanted another. I would be interested to tow with a new 5 3 to see how theyve improved but i can only afford to buy once and buy it right lol.

 

We pull a 2 place enclosed snowmobile trailer (parachute) and rarely does the 6.2L have to downshift to 7th gear on most of the hills here in MI. The torque under 2k RPM is impressive

I've owned three 5.3l engines, and I traded off the last one last year.

I'll never buy another. Just plain weak when compared to the 6.2L.
