2015 Sierra Audio Quality?

I like this new truck but it is lacking in the audio department. I have the 6 speaker 8" non-Nav non-Bose radio in my double cab. I am coming from a Traverse that my wife now drives and the sound quality is so much better in the Traverse than in the Sierra. For one the deeper tones aren't rich at all and it sounds like I'm listening to a boombox.

I want to stay with the OEM wiring if I do any upgrades. Would upgrading the speakers help any or would I need to look at a sub or amp? Need to stay as inexpensive as possible.

If you just want to add a little bass, get the Kicker Soundgate Sub only package. If you want more bass and better sound all around, add the Kicker Soundgate Sub and 4 channel Amp package.

Both are pretty much plug and play.

That kicker system is way over priced in my eyes. Look at many of the online sites that have premade boxes for under the rear seat which have many under 200. Add a good sub, soundqubed are great and very well priced. Will be cheaper that the kicker and sound will be much better. Even just adding coaxial speakers minus amps will get you a better range of freq than stock.

Mine consists of a 12 inch sub, Kenwood or jbl which both are under 80 bucks. I have pioneer door speakers and sonixelectronics was having a sale and I was able to get both front and rear for under 250. I picked up a 4 CH amp, precision power i1000.4 4 ch for 150. All that for under 650 not including some wires, connectors and such. Mine pounds. The sub being in the cab will get low and rumble your insides

Kicker is easy plug and play solution, that is why it costs as much as it does. It's made specifically for the truck and fits perfect.

I hear you on the price, but you have to pay for their R&D to get something vehicle specific.

I have the Sub only portion and am super happy with that (for now). ;)

True. I've literally pulled my hair out and racked my brain on some of my installs. I seem to make installs harder than they should be. But your right... Plug and play is way easier and less stressful. I had bought a somewhat plug and play jl audio amp+ sub in one. Def was not impressed that's why I went the route I did. Op does sound though like he may want and easy install so the kicker may be worth the price in that case

I went your route on my Saab 9-7x Aero, and it sounded amazing. However, I paid a premium for that and didn't get a penny in return when selling and didn't want to hassle taking any of it out before the sale.

So, I told myself this time that I am going to upgrade the Audio, but something more on the simple side and something that i can remove pretty easily if wanted.

I bought my Kicker Soundgate unit used for $350, so that I don't mind. I do plan to upgrade the door speakers someday, but first I have to do some research on what fits and what will run/sound decent with factory head unit and output.

That's the pita. I have left my systems mostly in when selling. I always say I'll remove it when I sell and as time goes by forget his long and intricate the install was and then being able to find the stock stuff to reinstall. I have the 70-2057 and 71-2107 connectors so I don't need to hack up the stock wiring. I honestly wish auto makers would partner with better audio company's. My wife's Mercedes has a Harmon kardon system. As far as I know no sub included. It has very good bass for the average person, clear and loud. Is it worth the thousands extra they charge ...prob not but gives ppl a way of a better system. I have never been impressed with Bose. My 03 maxima had a factory Bose system and I thought it was junk

I asked about the Kicker solution and someone told me they didn't think it would fit in the double cab setup. How exactly would that fit? Does anyone have the instructions handy that they can post?

I may swap out the speakers for sure. I did a search and did not see a detailed step by step. Mainly I would just like to know how to take off the door panels without breaking and if possible how to replace the two speakers in the front dash.

Thank you for the help!

They make them specific to the model.

I'll find links.

Oh sweet, thank you!!

I did find a post where someone linked a YouTube on how to remove the panel. Does anyone know if someone makes a speaker wiring adapter so that I don't have to hack the factory speaker wiring?

I can speak towards the install of the Sub only kit. No wire cutting is needed. You do T-Tap one wire in the fuse panel, but that is it. Super Easy, if I can do it, just about anyone can do it. The only hard part was getting the power wire through the firewall grommet. And really, that wasn't hard, just time consuming trying to fish it through.

I went the Kicker Soundgate 4 channel DSP kit. Hardest part is getting power thru the firewall. Enhances the stock speakers, fills the lows, fits out of plain sight and no factory wiring is hacked. I am pleased with the final product.

I'm coming from a Harmon Karden system in my Audi, and while the sound in my 2015 RCSB SLE is "ok", I noticed a huge difference in base response between radio, and streaming music via bluetooth from my phone. The radio was so tinny, I can't really listen to it at all. BT? 100% better
