Steering Stabilizer

Bought the Bilstein 33-196619 last week. Installed it Monday night on my 2015 2500HD, and it fit perfect. Only took 10 minutes to install, and it came with all necessary hardware. I only drove a few miles, but the bump steer seemed to be noticeably better.

Have you seen this vid? How is yours working out?

The Cognito Steering Brace is an aftermarket add on and they are the ones coming up with a fix.

So in stock form, there is no issues with the Bilstein stabilizer.

If you do a search for guys that are using both, you will see they are lowering the Bilstein.

I had the cognito kit on my last truck, but not this one. If they come out with a fix I might get the kit again.

DMax, can you post a pic of this on your truck? I've only seen stabilizers on solid axles like the fords.

I put one on my truck after I noticed there was a place for one and gm decided not to put one on it

I guess that it's a option?

The steering system when they redid the frames in 2011 was designed not to have a steering stabilizer.

Additional information: The 2500/3500 HD's are specifically built without a Steering Dampener Shock.

The explanation below can be used to give a more detailed description of how the 2500/3500 HD steering system functions, with respect to road input.

Steering damper's predominate influence is on large heavy impacts encountered during more extreme off road events. For smaller chatter/bump surfaces, the steering damper does not see

high enough rod velocity to generate resistance force. For these situations, there is more mounting bushing compression than anything else. The 2011-14 model year 2500/3500 HD steering

gear system features the same knuckle steering arm to pitman arm length ratio as the previous (2010 and older) HD model, but the steering gear piston diameter is larger and capable of

higher pressure, which creates more viscous damping in the 2011-14 model year 2500/3500 HD steering gear than the previous (2010 and older) HD model steering gears.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Sorry Doug, looks like I got beat to my pic. I totally spaced out on it.

I have the Bilstein stabilizer but can't get the stock one off, how did you do it?

2011 to 2015.5 trucks do not come from factory with a stabilizer, so nothing to remove.

2016 trucks do not have the frame mount, so a bit more involved if adding one.

2010 and older trucks with the factory stabilizer, use a pitman arm puller on the tapered stud. This is how I removed the factory one that was on my 2009.

Jesus I must be loosing my mind, I knew damn well there hasnt been a stabilizer installed from the factory since 2010...

Wife just bought a 2500 Yukon and I have yet to get the old one off, knew I was going to have to rent a puller just didn't know which one to get as I can only get it from the bottom side.
