Installed LED Fogs Tonight

I purchased my truck about 3 weeks ago and I have the mod bug bad. Just received my LED fogs and waiting for my HID headlights to arrive. Well I could not wait I had to get the fogs installed to see how they looked. I purchased some JDM Astar 5202 LED fogs for $27. Here a several pics. Definitely a lot brighter than the stock halogens.

Is the light output better than or equal to the stock halogen bulbs? Most of the time cheaper LED's don't put off a good output of light, they just appear brighter and whiter

Wondering the same. They look brighter in the pic but do they at least shoot as far as the stocks?

How easy was the install? I've heard some people say they were difficult because you have to move the wheel liner out of the way and some people say that isn't needed. I just got my fog light leds in as well as the headlight. Still waiting on the reverse light leds to come in.

As far as projecting out like the stock halogens they project out about the same maybe a little better due to the increase in light output. They are definitely whiter and brighter right in front of the truck. However they are not hid's as i had those in my last truck. The fog housing on the new trucks are a lot smaller so i was concerned with melting the lens with hid's so went with the led. Also wanted the color temp to match or be close to the hid's that i have on order for the headlight. They were actually really easy to install. I did not have to remove the wheel liner at all. Just got up under the truck. Had to twist around to find the best way to position my hand to properly grab and pinch the clips holding the light in but only took me 10 minutes to install, test, and adjust the fog lights housing a little.

I'm sure I know your answer but still gonna throw it out. Are the led fogs , the jdm astars, something you would recommend? I've been on the fence as there are a ton of different brands and a ton of - and + on every one

It really depends on what you are looking for. I had a chance to drive the truck tonight with them on and driving they don't project out the light like I would have hoped and really only light up right in front fo the bumper. Now not sure how often I will use them but once I get my hid's installed they will match in color nice but functionality is relatively lower than what I would have hoped for. So if light functionality is what you are after I would say no I would not recommend. If color matching to hid then for the price these may be something to look at.

thats disappointing. Really seems that if you want something functional,, you need to spend the money.

You can clearly tell the halogen, while not as intense, is projecting light further. The LED is much more intense, though this may be due to color, but it is only projecting light right at the bumper. So the LED's output isn't really useful at all.

 

I am on the hunt for a good replacement something for the fogs that'll make good output to match the headlights. Right now I will either do a FX-R projector swap or just buy 2016 HD headlamps. I want the fog lights to at least help out that upgrade in the future.

I cannot say that I am sold on the expensive ones being a whole lot better. Thus why I spent what I spent to try out what I have. While the led technology has come a long way in the last several years there is still improvement that needs to be done. I will receive my hid's today and work to get those installed and with past experience I know just the headlights alone will put out plenty of light without the fogs. Eventually in the future I may swap the fogs to hid just concerned about melting the lens and such with the added heat. Once I get the hid's installed I'll post up a few pics here as well.

what Im looking at is the morimoto led fog kit for my truck. 10 year warranty. all the Subaru and F150 guys seem really happy with them. But it isnt cheap.

Some of the expensive kits may be there. I have done some reading on the morimoto kits but decided not to go that route for the cost. I know there are a lot of people on here with those kits and say they love them. So don't let me advise sway you away from that kit. I am not the smartest when it comes to the led technology and only reference what I have read in the past and have seen.

yeah, its a frustrating thing imo. I feel like I've tried all the options, except Riged or Morimoto led.

Well I decided that the cheap led fog lights that I got just were not cutting in so I purchased some Opt7 fluxbeam 5202 from amazon. So far I am extremely pleased with the results. I am running HID's in my stock projectors and the new fogs. Here are some pics of what they look like. The above pictures are the before.
