passlock failure and ignition switch failure whats the difference?

Hi guys, 2006 yukon xl denali left the wife and kids stranded the other day. when i showed up i put in my key and it started right up.

I swapped her cars so she isnt nervous and i have yet to experience the issue.

Does anybody the difference between the behavior when the securty system fails and when the ignition switch fails?

my research suggests that when the security "passlock" (as i have seen it named) the car will crank but will not fire because it disables the injectors.

Her situation was that everything on the dash worked, blower radio dash lights...but nothing happened, no click, nothing, when she tried to start it.

There are other possibilities, crank fuse, ign relay, strtr relay, starter, starter solenoid, park neutral switch...

but first id like to see if anybody else knows about the behavioral/symptom difference btwn the psslock/securty system failure and a bad ignition/key switch.

maybe they are the same thing?

im a bit confused here.

A security fault will shut fuel down. Will still crank. Also should have the security light either flash or be on steady, depending on the fault. While the list of potential faults is long, I would say the most common problem is the ignition switch.

thanks for the info. can you clarify if the ignition switch is the same as the security issue?

are you talking about the key lock cylender? they piece the key goes into

Thanks,

So my exact symptoms were that every normal electrical light, the radio, all dash lights..they all came up. just no crank.

ive ruled out the ign and starter relay because we replaced them while it had the no start condition and didnt change.

my symptoms were not indicative of a passlock fail because i didnt get a crank.

and because i had all dash lights, everything per normal on dash, im thinking its probably not the ignition switch. every bideo i see online seems to suggest they had lights going on and off the dash. we didnt have that.

so this leads me to the question of the prk neutral switch.

does anybody know the symptoms of the prk neutral switch faure?? what is disabled?
