It should. I swapped an 05 6.0 in place of the 04 4.8. 99-02 had cable throttle. If you did the swap already, it possibly needs a crank relearn

GM went to aluminum blocks at some point but I'm not sure what year that was. I would think that if you changed parts over from your current engine it would be fime.

When year did the AFM start (V8/V4)? I know the 2004s don't have it. If the 2005 has it then that would make it a harder swap. Prior to AFM the basic long block should be the same except cast iron vs aluminum block and I don't see that making a difference.

No to both of your posts. AFM started when the aluminum started. the 05 TB/Envoy/Rainier with the 5.3. On full-size it was 07.

 

As to OP worries, the most that will be incompatible if it is out of a full-size is a retune. Say one is flex and the other isnt. Unless the 5.3 from the Silverado is an Aluminum L33. then I see why seller says no.

Keep in mind that the seller has to cover his ass in all situations. If this engine is being sold as a drop in engine, then it will require parts from your old engine to be swapped over, thus making it not a drop in anymore.

 

Remember the lowest common denominator rule when dealing with used parts and compatibility claims. Can someone install this engine as the seller claims without having to make any alterations to anything? If not, it is incompatible. Sort of like, if a monkey can install it, then it is compatible, if it requires the input of a 4 year old blind girl, it is incompatible.

the newer engine has a larger throttle plate, you have to use the throttle plate off the old engine and it should work fine

No. They both use the 75 mm. The only one to get bugger was the vette at 78. They didnt go to 87 mm til 2007 with the Gen 4
