Bad cv joint?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I have a 2008 gmc 1500 4x4. I've had a front end pop for several months. It's never got any worse but definitely never got any better. I had a wheel bearing fail a month ago. I replaced both sides and hoped that was it but nope. I can't locate any movement anywhere. Ball joints are tight, tie rod ends seem tight so here's what I've got. It only does it when the truck is returning to a straight track from being cut as sharp as I can turn. Today I got out side of the truck, cut all the way to the left and though the window I played with the steering wheel. From all the way left if I turn toward the right I can feel the pop in my drivers front tire. If I have the wheels pointing straight and cut the wheel 1/4 turn in either direction real fast I have no pop. So it's only when cut hard left when the cv joint is really in a bind. Do you guys think I have a bad CV?

That's what it sounds like to me. I had a similar thing happen on mine. My suggestion would be to replace the entire shaft as a complete assembly. It's really quite simple of a job.
