if you tow, stay away from the platinum tips.

i personally like the ones from wal-mart(autolite) and at 1.82 a pair there very easy on the wallet i think the part # is 608 on them.and i tow a boat 30+ times a year.the wires from the factory are great but are expensive from the dealer .the exact same wires are sold at autozone for about 70.00 but are lifetime replacement , even have the word DELPHI on them.

I put Taylor wires and NGK TR-55 plugs. Don't like platinum as I've had a couple tips fall off  I run straight copper and change them every 30k.

Why should we stay away from platinum plugs if we tow? Is there a difference in performance or is it a durability issue? I tow a fifth wheel frequently and this is the first I've heard of this recommendation. Any additional info to educate me would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the MSD 8.5mm Super Conducter wires and Champion Copper Plus plugs. On my ZR2, I ran the Taylor SpiroPro wires and AC plugs with an MSD ignition module.

I don't know about not towing with Platinum but I don't like platinum at all.

The only reason to run platinum or iridium IMO is to not have to change them for 100K. I think you get a hotter/brighter spark from a straight copper plug. THe downside to copper is you have to change them every 30K. Since I don't mind changing them, I run copper as they seem to keep the engine running a little smoother. Also on the platinum AC plugs, I have had 2 tips fall off and presumably go through the exhaust somehow. Pretty scary thought of a small metalic piece dropping into the combustion chamber. THe other downside to platinum is you can easily have a siezed plug if you leave it in for 100K.
