Investigation needed in GM Truck MPG

I have used Fuelly almost exclusively since I bought the truck and I get on average 1mpg less from that calculation vs what the fuel economy screen shows me I've averaged over the tank and I always wait till I'm empty to fill up.

 

 

 

My fuel economy screen matches Fuelly pretty good it's usually a .1-.3 mpg difference between the two. They only time it's off like 1 mpg is if I do 50/50 interstate city driving.

i get 14 around town and 20 highway thats leveled with tires. Do you let your truck warm up a ton? idol time is murder on the info screen numbers. make sure the flapper valve isint stuck. if that wont do it maybe u can buy a new honda ridgeline that is coming out if gas milage in a 6000lb pickup is priority

No, I do not let it warm up or idle much.

I live just down the road from you and have had my truck for 1.5 years and 12k miles. My overall average is 19.2 mpg, a little higher in the summer and lower in the winter. Either something is wrong with your truck or your foot is on the pedal way too hard.

 

Had the mileage verified by dealer in Roanoke, VA and they tell me several of their mgt all have 1500s as "Demos" and they all get about what I get. The sticker is way over stated. Same with many manufacturers as some others have posted....Most are coming clean, either via class action lawsuits or on their own to prevent such.

 

A Siverado should get more than 11 mpg around town with normal driving.

I get 16.5 mpg average since new (5000 miles). This is exactly the same as my 2010 5.3L, reg cab, long bed 2wd. I'm happy with that since my 2015 weighs 20% more (942#) and has 13% more HP. Both trucks have the 3.42 differential and OEM tires.

I've had my truck for 3 years (May 2013 build). For the first year, I got 19mpg around town and 23mpg on the highway. Then, I got the transfer case recall performed, and it tanked. I have gotten about 14mpg around town and no more than 19mpg on the highway the last two years. Because of that, I switched to E85 about 6 months ago. Now I get about 11mpg and just don't care anymore.

NO way Silverado's get the 16 City, 22 HWY, 18 average gas mileage. Mine is tracking at least 5 mpg below regardless of where I drive. I've tracked it for 2000 miles now and had into the dealer 3 times and they admit that it doesn't get the stated gas mileage.

Apparently, this has been a big problem for GM and is in my opinion, wide spread...

What mods do you have? 5 MPG below is significant.

 

I'm averaging ~17.5 with my 6.2L over 11k miles with 50/50 city hwy mileage. I can easily get the HWY mileage on trips, it's the city mileage that's hard. I can't stay out of the gas from a stop.

Something is wrong with your truck and something is definitely wrong with your dealer. Did you not read all the posts of people getting 22 mpg's or more on the highway and mid teens around town which is what the sticker says. You need to first find yourself another dealership to look at your truck and then you need to pay attention to your driving style. Not trying to be rude but you are coming off as a troll.

Possibly, but it's not rule of thumb.

Actually having a lower gear ratio is a good thing for people like me who are driving in hilly/mountainous areas or for those driving around town. For the EPA tests they are driving on flat roads at a constant speed so the 3.08 will get better numbers.

I just finished a trip from Kamloops BC to home(600k), navigating 5 summits on the way and also driving 110+kph (70mph) most of the time. I got 10.9 liters per 100k or 21 mpg in our 2016 Silverado. I'm quite happy with the mileage this big truck gets.

I get 19 mpg around town, 5.3 V8 3.42 rear end 4x4. It's not true city, its suburban driving, 35-45 mph not tons of stops. I do accelerate pretty quickly for what it's worth. I had a 2014 Sierra prior to this with the same specs except it was a 4.3L V6 and the MPG was basically the same.

HWY I've gotten as good as 25 mpg if I keep it around 55mph on flat land, if I kick it up to 65mph or so I get more like 21-22, 70 mph or more I'm lucky to get 20... I drove down to TN to the smokies with my old truck, about a 3k mile round trip with lots of hills and I got 19 mpg round trip in mixed driving. The hills really knock it down so if you live in an area with lots of hills that makes a difference.

I just drove from Virginia to Oregon to SoCa back to Virginia (6900 miles) and averaged almost 20 mpg for the entire trip. I'm stoked! 2015 Silverado 1500 Z71

I'm averaging 11 mpg in the city and 16 on the hwy. I'm pissed gm won't do anything. My 1995 gm 2500 with the 5.7L got better
