Hey guys, just took out my truck (2015 2500hd) with my slide in camper. The camper weighs in at 1655lbs wet. The rear squats about 3.5 inches when loaded. I've been researching Timbren bump stops and Torklift Stableloads. Not too sure which to go with. Just wondering if one is better than the other for "my" truck. Other than the squat in the rear, she handles well and ate the hills for breakfast.

I'm not familiar with either of those options, but if you're just looking to get rid of the squat, maybe have a look at air bags as an option too. I installed a set into mine, and I'm impressed with how they're working.

Had Timbrens on a 2500 HD worked well loaded. Unloaded did not like the ride. There was about 3/4 inch space between the Timbrens and the axel pad on on some roads had a jolt .

A few things - I think you are missing a number in your original post. At only 1600 pounds, it won't squat at all.

Are you using a weight distribution hitch?

I'm towing around 9,000 pounds and only have a little squat with my WD hitch.

I have truck camper and am running both upper and lower stable loads and airbags they work well together

The stable loads took a lot of the sway out the combo.

I think your missing the OP point... he's using a SLIDE IN camper, it weighs 1600 lbs, and when it's in... the truck squats. He's looking to reduce that. The use of a weight distribution hitch will not work in this situation as there's no trailer involved.

Air bags or helper springs. I used Super Springs on my last truck to help with sag and stability while towing and they worked great for five years. Once they're on there's no maintenance, unlike air bags.

My current truck has a much higher tow rating than my last one so I went with SumoSprings in the rear. They replace the factory jounce bumpers and have eliminated sag when hitched and smoothed the ride.

Based on my experience with a trailer if I had a slide in truck camper I'd look first at helper/overload springs or air bags.

I figured I would start with timbrens and if I need to ill get stable loads at a later time and run both of them together. Timbrens should be here Friday.

Good luck with the timbrens. I hope they work for you. I bought a set of those, thinking they would be nice to have when I have sand bags in the rear for snowplowing. But as another poster said, when you are running unloaded, you might notice a jarring bump when you hit bumpy roads.

I actually took the timbrens off and replaced them with the OEM bumpers. Then I installed Hellwig helper springs instead. I'm happier with the ride while unloaded now.

Firestone Air Bags are the way to go. They really smoothed out the ride on my Avalanche 2500 when pulling my boat....

I installed the timbrens Monday. The instal took 15 minutes to do both sides. So far I have not noticed a difference in ride, but I haven't loaded her yet. The Timbren is sitting around 1 1/2" off the axle. I'm looking forward to putting the camper on and measuring how much the rear sags, as well as the ride quality. What I like about the timbrens is they are an install and forget kind of system. There's no maintenance or any adjusting on them.

Timbrens work but they are not adjustable. I tell you when I put the air bags on my avalanche and pulled my offshore cat it was like a completely different truck

I'm sure they will help your springs out, But your truck will drop 1 1/2 until the bumps contact the axle, and those bumps will compress a bit before they start working. You may have to modify the bracket to lower them down. But it may work great also. If it still squats, take them off return and get airbags. Just ordered Air lift bags for my truck.

Man that's crazy. My 11k dry 5th wheel only gets my truck to level. It has no overloads and has never touched the stops. f6af1345313738b8f43b34404791de6d.jpg

    • If there are updates/fixes you want, you could pay to have the updates applied by the dealer.
    • Hi all - my current truck is a 2022.5 1500 High Country 3.0. I bought the truck used last year. After doing some digging, I noticed that my truck's software is stuck on the original build from 2022. I have no available software updates. I talked to my dealer about this and they recommended not trying to force an update since the 36,000 mile warranty is expired. This is a big bummer since there have been many major releases since that have fixed small issues and improved speed/usability.   For reference, the current software build number is: full_gminfo37_gb-user 10 W158E-W164.4.2-QIH22B-563.3 158 release-keys Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I just forget about it and move on, or try a different dealer?
    • Sure. Buy it for me 🤣
    • Using zip ties but 2-3 they snap due to sharp edges. Just using a shoestring. Last longer. 🤣
    • I ordered the Snap On...waiting for it to come in later this week or early next week.   New front cover, new crank seal and new balancer are on. Water pump, pulley, fan, hoses, and plastics reinstalled. I can move forward knowing all my timing marks are dead on and the front engine is hopefully sealed better than it was. Take 2 with the water pump...trying high temp thread sealer on the lower bolts.   Rebuilt injector and new-new regulator is in, it looks like new. Top intake reassembled and all the bits are reconnected and snugged down.   Thinking about knock sensors again, I located both of mine and, there's your problem, Francis... The driver's side one is broke, plastic is bashed in, part of the wire is bare, and it appears to have been damaged like that for a long time. I saw the wire but didn't think anything of it. The knock sensor might not be my pulled timing issue, but it sure looks suspect. It must still be conducting, otherwise I'd expect a CEL. But perhaps with its sacred crystal inside exposed, jilted and dirty, maybe it's sending mixed signals. So I'm waiting for one of those and a new pigtail to come in. Pass side sensor looks good, except for the spark plug wire resting on it (!). The plug wires are healthy so it shouldn't be causing an issue, but I separated them and added zip ties to nearby looms to keep everything well apart.   So, I'm down to installing a knock sensor AND, oh, replacing the exhaust and cat. I actually think that's going to be fairly easy, it's all bolt-together, all new stuff from Walker is laid out on the shop floor ready to go. Hopefully have this thing on the road again for the weekend.   My luck? It will still be leaking oil, coolant, pulled timing, intermittent CEL for running rich, or it probably won't run at all -- because that's how this project has gone.   I've never worked on a vehicle so ...hurt? ...cursed? in my life. Everything has been effed with SO HARD, but I think...knock on wood...I've managed to undo all the backyard stuff and we're almost reset back to "just" an 80k mile, 30 year old Blazer.
