Yea, to be honest though, I wouldn't want a huge change. The current engine has been so good and reliable, some type of improvement is all I would welcome rather then a whole new design.

Agreed... just get it a little more powerful and a little more efficient. Still leaves the transmission in question... new or same...

Well seeing the emblem on the hood of the recently released 2017 photo's, I'd say its still an Allison transmission but whether or not changes have been made to it as a result of the engine changes is unknown. I do know that Allison leads the industry at what they do and if they are putting out some changes, I'd like to think we can count on them to know what they are doing. I'm excited for the 17's HD's! I will be getting rid of my 14' 5.3 SLT. Before that I had a Silverado with the 6.0L and it felt similar to my current 5.3, so I'm excited for my first diesel.

Not saying I don't trust them or like Allison. Mainly I'd just like to know if it is still a 6 speed. A lot of good deals on 2016 models right now.

Your right a ton of good deals on the 16's right now. My local dealer had the duramax 3500hd's on sale for 4K cheaper then the duramax 2500hd's! 7-10k off sticker for the various models with incentives and rebates. I'd kick myself for not waiting on the 17 though especially if they end up having rear vent AC, and other various upgrades I'd know I'd like. Decisions decisions!

I have a 2016 I got in october 2015 (was on the first runs ordered it in August 2015)... my LML like all the rest is the last run of this setup and today is bullet proof.... who knows what the new issues are with the new L5P....

also 785foot pounds of torque is enough... i mean the race for 900+ foot pounds is getting out of hand... i haul 10K and it's like butter already... truck never has 1 issue...

I do not like the new hoods either... the GMC one is better but they both look terrible in my view... and from a freind that works at GM says pretty much everything else is the same as the 16 except the motor and trans. he doesn't know of any other changes... but again he might not be privy to that knowledge either...

I wouldn't call it bulletproof, the $14k fuel system leaves lots to be desired.

Out of hand?

I'm an owner of a Ford Super Duty with a tuned 6.4L that dynoed at 582/1176 lbs of torque. Trust me when I tell you that 785 is weak, and more is always better.

Tow once with high horsepower and torque. Along with better fuel mileage, high amounts of torque is pure luxury.

Better than all the ford nightmares and I actually had 0 issues with my GMC and all my previous ones as well...

sure more is better but when is enough enough?... 1000lbs 1200 1500

i haul my 10K trailer around and this GMC pulls it like butter already, compared to my POS F250 i ditched...

don't get me wrong I'm a racer more HP more speed etc... i love it... but at some point you have to say "this is good enough i don't need any more than this" it can do the job perfectly and it's all i need it to do.

With more torque comes more fuel efficiency. More is always better, and I'm guessing you never towed with a pick up truck that makes over 1,000 lbs. +. Your butter becomes lumpy mayonnaise.

As far as changes, 2019 will be the year everything changes for the big three heavy trucks.

The Ford has the exact same fuel system...
