Lift questions/tire questions

Hey guys, reading through the lift thread, tons of info, but almost too much to digest.

 

Here's the deal. I'd like to lift my double cab. However I would like to be able to revert back to stock with no issues (so no cutting/welding for me),as I'd like to be able to transfer it if I get a Crew cab when I have kids down the road. Would the RC 2.5" lift/level be the highest I could go reliably? If not, what would be recommended?

 

Secondly. I do a 40 mile highway commute, and at least twice a month I do either a 3 hour round trip ride to visit family, or a 6 hour round trip ride to go boating. I'd like to find the quietest set of 33s to go with it (on 18" rims). Aggressive looking is nice, but I'm willing to sacrifice it for quietness and ride smoothness with all the highway miles I log. Any recommendations for a soft/quiet/smooth all terrain?

If you want to "transfer" a leveling kit I think you are making the wrong choice. You don't really want to reuse stuff like that. Especially since it's so damn cheap to just buy another level. You'll spend more money paying someone to take it off.

 

I am just trying to understand how people have no idea what kind of set up to use for their situation. Come on man you have all sorts of threads to read through that literally have every bit of information.

 

If you want bigger tires but don't want road noice obviously a highway tire is your best bet. If you want some offroad capabilities then go with a AT. Then lastly if you want a aggressive tire and will be able to use it offroad. Then choose a MT.

 

This is to everyone that post questions like this. Start your statement with "i don't feel like searching what so ever tell me what to do". This generation you can literally type anything into Google and find your answer.

Kinda dick. But I'll bite.

 

Like I said, there's so many threads including a 150+ page one to go through, finding the max lift is like finding a needle in a haystack.

 

It's more to revert to stock if I sell, or have a warranty claim than anything else. Transfer was a bad term. I meant more along the lines of keeping tires when buying a new truck.

 

And I know the difference between tire types. I was more along the lines of, compared to the at2, ko2, etc, what is the quietest.

 

Glad your response was to type a post that took longer than just answering the question. You stay on that high horse!

I have over 30,000 on my nitto Terra grapplers with I would guess ½ tread life left. My wife's impala has more road noise than my truck. I'm running a shitty 5" lift and 305/55/20's due to the -18 offset of my wheels. I would recommend a 2½" level, and all terrains, either nitto, or bfg ko's. Whatever you prefer.

Have you noticed any increase in road noise over the life of the tire? I was digging the toyos but heard they hum a lot more after about 10k miles. Was wondering you experienced anything with the nittos

Not at all. Rotate, and balance at every oil change.

Yeah sometimes dudes on here can be dicks, myself included at times but whatever. I had a 2" level and 305/55r20's toyo at 2 extremes on my truck and loved them. Minimal road noise good wear and even better looks. Probably the most aggressive all terrain out there. Personally I'd just wait and get the real lift you want when you get your new truck but if you need something to hold you over which is understandable, go with a level and 33's. I recently put on a BDS 4" coilover kit with 35" toyo rt's and it's absolutely amazing. So there's that. However, I did done research on ready lift and I'm pretty sure you can return your truck to stock with their 4" SST kit. But you can't run 35's like the BDS or zone kits

    • Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.
    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
