Trying to Remove tailgate and replace parts into new one

Are there any DIY on this. Seems pretty simple. I can get this friggin clip to come apart after I unlock it, which is the backup camera wire.

Pull back on the red portion then you have to press down on the black section where the red part pulled out.

 

The red part keeps you from pressing down. Remove it then press down in that area as you pull apart

It pulls out but not all the way then Press in area at front of it

The '16 has a soft drop system on the tailgate which likely incorporates some sort of spring/piston/friction dampening system similar to the spring assist in gen2 Avalanches with steel tailgates.

Can that be transferred over to a 2015 tailgate?

Sounds like the tailgates with it and without it have different mounts on the truck. If the new tailgate had it then it is probably still in there from what it sounds like

My 2014 has the soft drop gate as well. I believe it is standard on anything with a trim level of LT or greater. It is done with torque rods in the tailgate.

just spoke to the gm rep and they are the same 14-17.

This is what the tailgate assist mechanistic looks like. This is on the curb side of my 2014 Crew Cab. Remove your curb side taillight and this is what you should see. If you remove the bolt the assist system come off and your tailgate will drop like a rock.
