I sometimes miss the 5 speed in my 89 S10

I still own one - my '94 S10 plow truck. It's a rusted out POS, but does the job. Can't really complain, since I got it free . Just cost me $60 or so (and a few years off my life) for a new clutch line.

 

 

My very first vehicle was a 5-speed '88 S-15. Thank God it had a 5-speed with that gutless slug also known as the Iron Duke. Talk about anemic! Thing used to slow down on the highway on every hill with just me in the truck, LOL! 70 MPH was all she could do there, foot planted to the boards.

 

Only time I hate a standard is in traffic, or plowing. Every other time, it's ideal. Easy & cheap to fix too, as an added bonus.

I have experience with about the same vehicle, except an auto(S10 iron Duke). I had one floored for THREE miles and it finally hit 55 MPH when I reached the off ramp. Those only had 95 HP to begin with, then add 15 years of a rough life.....

My truck is my first automatic, i would not go back to a manual in a daily. One trip through LA with a manual is enough to make you rethink every decision you have ever made in your life

For me it doesn't bother me. After driving commercial trucks with at least a 10 speed in cities and the mountains it wouldn't bother me if I had a manual as a daily driver again. My first vehicle/truck of my own was a manual '86 Chevy C10 truck. I actually prefer a manual in anything. But, after the '86 I got a '98 Z71 so when I was looking for a newer truck in the age range the manuals were hard to come by. It was rare to fine one for sell and when I did see one it was ragged out to hell. So I just settleed for the auto. And of course after the '98 I got my '14 which isn't even available with a manual.
