Air Bag Rear Suspension Kit ?

Anyone have any experience with installing an airbag rear suspension kit on their 2014+ Gm 1500 trucks? I was entertaining the idea of removing the second leaf spring and overload spring and just running a monoleaf set up with airbag back up to avoid overloading the monoleaf. I think this set up should carry the ten bags of groceries I pick up every Sunday no problem. Seriously, my truck sees very light duty on a routine basis with little to no towing and maybe 700-1000 lb max ever in the bed.

FWIW - The system I am looking at is the AirLift - Ride Control Kit , 2000lb capacity. I honestly believe this setup would provide an improved unloaded ride without losing the utility of the truck for light duty hauling and towing.

I have airbags on mine but didn't remove the overloads because when you do that you'll get a lot of axle wrap. I would say do it but you'd need some traction bars.

Good point. I use to run a monoleaf with traction bars on a 68 Nova. I wouldnt want that setup on a 4x4 truck though. Maybe a rearched overload spring to intercept the mainleaf earlier would work or just clamped to the front half of the main leaf to avoid wrap up. Gotta think about that one. Thanks.

just installed the ride rite/firestone kit couple days ago.

bought a T so both bags inflate together

15psi (should be 5 unloaded) its a bit firmer ride, no lean now, but not the least bit harsh.

will drop it to 5psi today or tomorrow

at 90psi it really lifts up

got it to level truck with trailer on it.... certainly will do the job.

Now i'm pulling an approx 4000 lb trailer - came with weight distrubution hitch.

Hitch alone levels truck back out . Figure now I went overboard adding the air bags.

Won't hurt to leave 10psi in anyway - will help give the springs a boost. Trailer still has the inertia even if the receiver isnt feeling the full weight due to the hitch.

In for more info. You guys that have these kits installed - Did you opt for the on-board compressor and tank as well?

I did not. I have the air fill valves where the bolts to my license plate goes. 1262ec8141455845dafb4786257a55fc.jpg

The remote compressor add-on (with a gauge) would be really great if you have varying loads.

While you can estimate the load you are going to go get and use your home compressor to adjust before you leave - it'd be nicer to just drive to the destination and push a button till you are level. Or go the extra yard for the auto-leveling setup on top of the remote.

Now I have the trailer and weight distribution hitch all sorted out - 10 PSI is all I need, and I leave it there 24/7 load or no.

Lot of $ to add the remote compressor kit since I don't really need it for my particular use.

Ride Rite, firestone bags.

Hour to install the first, 20 min for the other.

Came with a separate filler for each bag. This is good if you have a slide in camper as they are not balanced side to side.

I bought a 1/4" push-T from a plumbing supply shop so I use only 1 filler, with the same pressure going to each side to simplify changes.

Both brands are good. I'd go with price/availability.
