"Orange Peel" chip protection

On a 2014 Sierra I'm looking at purchasing I've seen the rock chip protection at the bottom of the body panels. There are a couple of small chips in the protective coating.....is it regular painted surface under the orange peel or is it bare metal? Looks like paint to me but would like to verify. Thanks

I think you are referring to the rocker guard protection. Orange peel is something different and probably present as well on every painted surface (all factory cars have orage peel in paint if you look close unless they have a professional detailing including a 3500grit wet sand on every surface. Totally not needed and costs several hundred bucks.

That said would totally expect a 2014 to have a couple whacks under there, I would not worry about it or effect my decision unless real bad you could ask a dealership on purchase to touch those up or just do it yourself after with a masking off the area + quick rough sand + rattle can matching paint, it does not have to look pretty down there.

As far as I am aware what that stuff is is this http://3mcollision.com/3m-rocker-panel-coating-08889.html however GM may use a different brand / chemical mix and I think it is clear.

Stone chips or bad paint? If it is the paint there is a bulletin on this. Apparently some runs of the 2014s the stone guard was installed wrong. The test is putting painters tape on the stone guard and pulling off. if the paint sticks to the tape it's not stone chips.I could see the primer where the chips are
