WilliamBos Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Looking at getting either a scanner or Tuner. I want to be able to read and clear codes, but also like the idea of changing tire size and disabling afm. We don't do any major involved repairs, but being able to read and clear if need be is nice. I can't afford both. Up here the Diablo In tune is a lot more than a Superchips flashpaq. Is the Flashpaq a good buy? Being able to update for the next new truck will be nice.
anumber1 Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 A obd2 code reader is so cheap that surely you can afford one. If ya want a tuner, buy a tuner but a simple scan too is pretty much essential even if you don't do your own work. I at least want to know the nature of my check engine light. This is a cheap example: Oxgord CAN OBD II Scanner Tool for Check Engine Light & Diagnostics, Direct Scan and Read Out https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011Q18D14/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_hwKYxbKQP5FYH They can be had at a number of other sellers for around the same price.
WilliamBos Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 I was thinking along these lines of an MD70... https://www.matcotools.com/catalog/search/ Not buying any more throw away code readers, had too many issues of either not working, or zero support.

That is a lot of money for a not particularly powerful, pro grade tool. This consumer grade unit has the same features (OBD2-CAN/ABS/SRS) (minus the usless "Tech Advisor" - that is what google is for!) and is half the price. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001QIYAQ0 Pro tools are nice but if I was gonna throw down on a pro grade scanner, a used Snap-On Solus would be on the list (or a used Tech2 if you are primarily a GM owner). I bought my Tech2 on Craigslist for $400 including software through 2015. It's probably a clone but functions flawlessly and I was able to verify it functioned before I bought it. I have had and not cared for the Superchips tuner. Pretty lame for the money IMHO. A custom tune is money better spent if you want a tune.
WilliamBos Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 Thanks. I found the 3150e on Amazon.ca for $249.99. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01EG99EY8/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=ULXLBJZH1IB2&coliid=I3P9FNPPLWGQPG&psc=1
WilliamBos Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 I got the 3160d for aroubd $90 USD on amazon Thanks. How do you like the tool? The exchange on our dollar is what drives the price up.
