Lift kit question

I have a 2.25" level kit now and have been thinking about installing a 4" suspension lift sometime next year. This past week I had some 17x9 Black Rhino's installed and I get some pretty good rub on the drivers side wheel well when in full lock in reverse so I'm thinking about doing it sooner than later now. The question I have is since I have the 2.25" level on now, with a 4" lift am I only going to get another 1.75" of clearance or does the lift kit raise it from level so I'll get an actual 4 more inches?

It is good idea that you are doing a little more research on this subject before going further. This forum is a great place to start. Did you change tire size from your stock rims? If not, then it would evidently be the choice of wheels. (if tires weren't rubbing previously). Offsets and stacking leveling kits are two topics worth further researching, My guess is that you will need to replace your 2,25 level with the 4" lift and that your wheel offset needs to be considered. With proper wheels your current level may be adequate!

I replaced factory tires about a year ago...305/70/17's on OEM rims. I had the same slight rub but my question is if the lift kits go 4" from level, which would give me 4" clearance and more room than I need.

I took a rubber mallet tithe wheel well this morning and it barely rubs now, but again I'm more interested in know about the additional lift I'm going to get

I don't get the idea of a small lift. For tire size gains.. You can run on 34's without running. You'll spend thousands to go up an inch?

do not install a lift kit on top of a level, you would only gain the 1.75 which does not exactly translate to the same size of tire allowance as you measure a tire diagonally across the tread not top to bottom in regards to clearance.

That's what I thought and was my question. Someone told me that a 4" lift brought it level then up 4 inches...so essentially up 4" from where I am now?!?

This is what I'm trying to find out...does a 4" lift bring it level then additional 4" or will it only bring it up another 1.75" from what I have now? I the latter than not worth it to me

A 4 inch lift kit would be 4 inch in front and 2.5 in the rear (1.5 if Z71[?]). Yes the truck would be level after the lift you mention. Some lift kits will maintain rake (un-leveling) but not that one.

The reason you would not install a lift on top of level (I am no expert only enthusiast like you) is it messes with the angles and causes extreme wear and tear to stuff like ball joints. "That is when your shit starts falling apart just driving to the Walmart meetup"

Yeah that video specifically is one of the reasons I pulled back and decided to wait on a lift. I can afford the premium m/t tires and dope rims and a low end lift but after learning some of that stuff I would much rather wait until I can put down on a real lift. I am looking at the mid range such as ProComp Stage 2 or BDS w/Coilovers possibly a McGaughys if can deal a good price. As he states 'You lift it, you bought it' may as well buy something you will not regret later. Even he says at end he would probably still run cheaper lifts himself but he has a shop and does this all day so can fix whatever he needs or add control arms etc to his kits, most of us are not in that position so want something solid that will just work and last.
