Factory Projectors

Is there a difference between the 2014 projector light and the 2015? Or even the latest part numbers for the factory projector lights? I'm planning on replacing my reflector style lights with factory projectors purchased new from GM parts direct. I just want to know if updates have been done. I'm also planning on purchasing the retrofit source HID kit for them.

There is no difference between the OEM 2014 & 2015 Projector headlights. They are the same part numbers.

If you're going to upgrade the projectors, why not just retrofit your current headlights and save $1,000 on buying factory projector lights?

Is there a good guide out there on how to do this? Ive been looking to get some good HID. I just don't know what the accepted method and parts is.

Before I purchased some OEM headlights I would look into some aftermarket OE style projectors like these: http://www.protuninglab.com/20chsi15253510.html

Reason being is the OE SUCK and are are expensive. If you are going to retro fit them (which I highly recommend) they why spend big bucks on OE stuff that can't even keep the moisture out? I would double check to make sure the aftermarket will except the FXR but that would be the route I would take.

Also would be interested in converting my factory lights. I cant belive they have issues with keeping moisture out. My OEM reflector ones never had an issue

I did see those the only thing I was disappointed about was the all chrome headlight housings. I really want that factory look

You could do a Mini H1 conversion in your LT headlights. This requires you to open up the headlight and cut a little to fit the Mini H1.

http://www.fastheadlights.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=buy_chevy_minih1_kit

This would BLOW factory projector head lights out of the water as the Mini H1 is a far superior projector.

There are many after market headlights that come with either chrome trim or painted trim *usually black*

The FXR projector SouthPawCo is refereing to is essentially the best projector you could install. With a mounting adapter from www.fastheadlights.com it will bolt right into the 2014-2015 OEM GM projector headlights. http://www.fastheadlights.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=buy_chevy_fxr-adapter-kit-only

The even sell a kit with everything you need to complete the Projector and bixenon hid install.

http://www.fastheadlights.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=fxr_chevy_retrofit-kit

The FXR projector will not fit in these aftermarket headlights!

ANZO

Winjet

Recon

Eagle eyes

You can install a Mini H1 projector in those headlights though. *this will require opening the headlight and customizing*

There are many options out there for you. If you talk to fastheadlights or other retrofit shops they always recommend using OEM headlights even if you are retrofitting.

here are some of the options.

1) $700+ on oem projector headlights plus $150+ for an hid kit

2) retrofitting your current reflector headlights yourself with the Mini H1 hid kit $300+ *can have professionally done but that gets pricey*

3) Get after market projector headlights and an HID kit. $500+

Many oem projector owners are very happy with they stock projector headlight and HID kit.

I was in the same situation you are in. I ended up taking a risk and installed Anzo headlights which are made by Eagle Eyes. I also installed a Morimoto HID kit for the low beam and Opt7 led for the highbeam. I am very happy with the results. I can see clearly at night and have not had a single problem. Will they last? only time will tell.

Eagle Eyes made a headlight housing that was an exact looking replica of the OEM projector headlights but they are very hard to find. The rumor is GM shut them down for making them too close to oem.

Ok smart guy! Take the time to fully answer someones questions and do the research for him, jeez! (Merely joking of course :), good work! ).

This pretty much sums it up. The FXR is the biggest/baddest projector out there. I knew eagle eye made an OE rep's of the factory projectors but I couldn't find it and now I know why. If you do not feel comfortable doing so, fastheadlights will retro fit them for you and give you some loaners on their loaner program: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxi6Qm-ayEU8MDdyZHFoZDNSOVE/view.

I was one of the many that was not satisfied with the performance of the factory projectors but the FXR will 'bolt' right up with the kit from fastheadlights.

If this is your first time working on headlights, I would plan for a lot of time and then times that number by two. TAKE YOUR TIME! I cannot stress that enough and if you have a like minded friend, it's worth the beer money. I would also skip the headache and just go with the Morimoto HID kit FROM FASTHEADLIGHTS. When ordering, place a note in there asking them to install the Silverado plug for you so it will save the confusion. I recently had a talk with them about my FXR/HID kit install from them and they should be correcting this before sending it out to you.

I'm hoping to strike a deal for some used LT lights this week. Plan is to paint the bezels black, clear them and add some mini H1 7.0's. We'll see...

    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it.
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.
