Lowrance GPS + Antenna Installation

Has anyone installed a Lowrance GPS with their external antenna in a 14+?

I have a Trophy-5m Baja with the LGC16W external antenna that is supposed to arrive today and I'm not quite sure where to begin.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations regarding placement of the GPS, I would appreciate it! Also, I'll need to run the antenna wiring through the roof and down into the headliner so any input on that would be helpful as well.

Ignore the ignorance of the previous poster. He's a troll.

Someone has surely done it. Any chance you could check with a local audio installer. Or possibly get with your local sheriff or pd possibly game wardens. Ask where they get their trucks rigged out with lights gps and external antenna boosters. Worth a shot. Worst case have to drill your own hole and silicone the heck out of it under the antenna.

why not just use your phone. that would be a real timer saver.

I am genuinly confused why anyone would add (or pay for as an option) gps/navigation. 15 years ago maybe but not today.

It's a chart plotter for off road GPS. It will track your every move and GPS coordinates for future reference. Your phone GPS/Tom Tom/oem GM nav will not do this. Going out in the middle of the desert or trails in the woods, you will need something like this.

It's pointless talking to him. Everyone is dumb according to him.

I'd like to know a round about cost of this setup. I've always used my hand held mounted in the pickup because I can pack it and use it in the back country. But always good to know where's where!

There are areas I travel where my cell service is zilch. Relying on a phone is therefore not a time saver -- it's a weakness.

who do you think tom tom and GM have been buying thier mapping data from. seen any tom tom cars driving around mapping out roads lately have you?

Downloading a map for on-road navigation is one thing. Real-time positioning in the furthest corners of the earth is quite another.
There's a reason why ships and expedition campers aren't just using an Android for navigation purposes, no matter how great as you find your particular solution.
Because it works for you doesn't mean it works for all. And it sure as heck doesn't help OP whatsoever.
Can we try to actually answer his question? Or are you just here to pass judgement?

FYI that mega million dollar aircraft carrier uses googles technology to plot and map its course. My last job was working with NATO in this very system. No one maps the corners onbthe earth more accuratly which is why it is th standard today and all came from Google (well originally they bought it and improved it)

look up KML.

to answer the OP question the best place to mount is in the box it came in and returning it. waste of money.
