What's wrong with your brand new calipers that came on the truck?

Anything in particular you're looking to improve here? Is it just the look or something else? Assuming you're running totally stock (from the sound of it you are anyway) why would you need better brakes?

Hey. Eddie is new to trucks and is probably aware of the schedule of mods he can add but wants to start with brakes.

Hell dude, don't cheapen your ride. If Brembo gold-plated are the best, then go for it. You may have to wait two months before tint/lift/tires/exhaust. But get the best at each step.

In the end, you'll have the creation that you enjoy.

Congrats on your purchase of what I've long considered the best looking truck on the market.

Hey Eddie wilwood makes a brake kit for our trucks with 18 and 20" wheels, I think it comes in a bit cheaper than the Brembo's

Not to discourage you against the brake kit but larger brakes (say in race cars) are mostly there for the extra heat capacity and he dissipation with the larger mass and surface area. In most cases, especially in street applications your tires are your limiting factor in breaking distance and your braking forces much outweigh the traction.

A simple test of this is to slam on the breaks as hard as you can, if the tires lock up or ABS kicks in the friction between the tire and road is less than the forces from your breaks, therefore bigger breaks won't shorten your stopping distance. If you plan to put MT's or AT tires on your truck your on road traction will decrease.

Big breaks do have their place though, like say if you tow a lot over hilly terrain.

Enhancing the quality of brakes is a "want" rather than a "need" on a brand new GMC. This is no different than most modifications. I haven't heard much about brake upgrades on this forum and would like to hear more. What compels you to replace the brakes? I know I would rather have my stopping power at peak performance over a few extra horsepower!

Yea I'm running stock as of right now. The brakes are just a want not a need. My braking isn't an issue. I'm usually a car person, last car was a charger and I put some on there, but wasn't sure of the plus or minus effect it would have on a truck. shop I used to go to I know longer deal with so im starting over from scratch here. Seen a few trucks with the brakes so thought maybe its not as uncommon as I thought
