2017 2500 or 3500?

Its a safety thing. I too have heard several times now that installing a 5th wheel on a short bed is a no no, and many places will not do it.

They do it every day...just need a slider. I have a 5th wheel hitch in my truck, it's a 6.5 bed.

6.5' isn't a short bed anymore, it's the "standard" bed. Remember there's the whatever size tiny thing now.

But that bed isn't available in a 2500/3500, which is what is being discussed here.

I'm ordering a HD today.. "standard bed", 4WD, Duramax Denali... What is the main difference with the 3500 over the 2500? Website says there is no difference in towing with the standard bed between 2500 and 3500... Does the 3500 have larger discs for braking? Heavier springs? Any help would be great... I wanted to add Snow plow prep, but it deletes Sunroof, and rear slider, wth? Can I add wiring after, plug and play for a front light harness and roof harness? Would like to add light bars

Main difference between the 2, is payload. The frame modulus between the 2 may be different as well.

Brakes are the same for both the 2500 -3500 DRW.

Also the 3500 SRW has additional leaf springs.

If you don't need to use the truck as a snow plow, there is no sense in getting the prep.

My hopes with the Snow plow prep was that it would have heavier front Springs and maybe that would help make it more level. Also, I would have wiring harness's prewired with a switch for front lights and roof lights ..

Axles are the same ?

You won't have the heavier torsion bars without the plow package.

The big capability difference happens when you go to the DRW (dual rear wheel) 3500.

All DRW's have the long box (8') vs the 'standard' 6.5'.

I appreciate the help... I wonder why they delete the rear slider and the sunroof with the plow prep... I don't need the universal remote... but seems as though you'd be able to get it all on the Denali... guess not....
Does anyone know if forward and roof harness/light switch can be added plug and play?
I'm assuming one could also order heavier front torsion arms and add after..

remember to upgrade (option) to the Tow Mirrors

Torsion Bars can be specked out 5600 vs 6000 IIRC when ordering

Roof Beacon wire is in the head liner with switch on the dash - part of the Plow Package

Denali comes with tow mirrors when you get the fifth wheel prep. (which I did). So you can request the 6000 torsion bars without getting the snow plow pkg? I wonder if they already come with the duramax, to help with the added weight
